We arrived at Bodie early, not knowing that the gate wasn't opened until 9am. Having seen images under starry skies or at sunrise, I had no idea those stellar images were either taken on the sly, or taken by employees. My bad for not verifying; and hence my disappointment with the cloudless skies and harsh light of the late morning. Out of hundreds of clicks, I thought this limited set offered some insight into the community. Even for a remote, harsh environment, I noted that the townsfolk still had their refinements as reflected in things like corbels over entryways, heavy moldings around door panels...the accoutrements of a more urban society.
Great series Diane, it has been quite a trip for you, hasn't it? I have enjoyed the trip along with you and It has been great.
It is, indeed, a neat opportunity to view a well-preserved entire community. Thanks for taking time for a look, Longshadow.

Yes, it was a wonderful trip, Earnest--I never tire of exploring the West (just get tired of dealing with the air flights), and to have sunshine and dry weather the whole time was icing on the cake for me. So glad you are enjoying the ride!

Thanks so much for dropping in for a closer look, Jim. Glad you enjoyed this visit into the past.
Nice captures, Diane. There is a character and durability that is impressive.

I would agree wholeheartedly. Makes me wish I had 'vision' into the past. I can't imagine how challenging life/survival would have been. The other place I love to explore is the old mine camps throughout the San Juan Mountains in Colorado (shared those images back in July of 2016).
Great shots. I always wanted to go to Bodie.
Thanks for sharing the photos. They bring back memories when I was there over 50 years ago with my parents
