I use 2 or 3 64s class 10 cards then transfer the days photos to a laptop or tablet at the end of the day. I also like to photograph something that tells where the photo was taken, even if it's just written on a piece of paper. Whirlwind trip photos can get confusing once home.

I like to use one card per day but I don't take notes. If you take notes on what you photograph or at least what you begin and end each day with, you could use 3-4 64GB cards. If you plan on loading what you take every day into a laptop, you could go with 2-3 cards but I would go at least 32-64 GB if you're going to do video clips too. You can always get more cards if you need them.

Have fun and bring back photos/videos to show us.

Yes, I agree with your opinion. I have read so many others that suggest NOT "Putting all your Eggs in One Basket" regarding your cherished Images, if you lose that ONE 128gb memory card, you lose EVERYTHING.

I would take several smaller SD cards rather than one big one. The theory being if one card craps out you still have the images on the others. If you do decide on the larger capacity card, check to see if your camera will accept the larger cards. Some will not.

I'd never put all my pictures on one card for that reason!
(I use five 8's and three 16Gb cards.)
My cameras do have limits on how much memory they can use (address).

I have an Nikon D7100 and a Nikon D610 and use 64gb cards in both... but I have 6 or 8 32gb cards for "backup/overflow". Make sure that you are getting cards that are within the maximum card size for your camera. 64gb is the max for the D7100... but the cards are highspeed (highest that the camera will support.) This allows for shooting fast shots without filling the buffer.. or fast enough that the buffer doesn't have to wait on the card before allowing the next shot. Keep in mind that this is mainly important for fast or continuous shots, but I would rather have it and not need it than to really need it and not have the capability. I hate missing good shots because I was waiting on the camera to cycle.

My wife and I will be traveling to Italy soon and for convenience sake I'll be bringing my SX50. It'll only be for 11 days, but I'm sure I'll be taking plenty of photos and maybe a few movies. Around here I use a Sandisk Ultra 16 GB card. So my question to you seasoned travelers is this...what size card should I use ? 128 Pro or is that overkill ?

Just me, but I always take one 32 gig card for each day and one extra. I like to have them separated by days and a spare. That way if one card has a problem, I still have the others.

Like I said, that is just me.

It is a 12MP camera, right. If you shoot JPEGs I'd say a Dozen 16GB SD cards would do, if shooting Raw, say Ten 32GB SD cards. How much have you shot on other vacations (say per day)? You should know your own shooting style. You might need a lot more than I've suggested or a lot less.

Ciao Ava

I would recommend a 32GB or 64GB Sandisk Memory Cards and bring spare batteries.

Buon viaggio!

We have an SX-50 and use 32 GB cards. However, we also perform a double backup each evening. To me the back up is the most important part. We care 3 32 GB cards for that camera and only format them if they are full and we need to reuse one or more. However, because we back all images up to either a portable hard drive and either a flash drive or micro sd cards we always have at least 2 copies. Twice we have had cards become corrupted and lost some images but nor many because of this system.

Call me different, if you have a camera that will take a 128 card, I can't come up with a good reason to carry around a number of smaller cards. To me the odds of damaging or misplacing one of the small card is greater than having one large card go bad. Will you take 2 cameras just in case one stops working? I have never had a card go bad and I would play the odds. Take a photo of your Iphone each morning showing the date and keep moving. Take a smaller card as backup if you fear a failure but the chances are very small that you will use it.

I take one card per day and an extra (32gb), backup each day to a laptop and external hard drive, format the cards after I get home and make sure every thing is cool ... !

To me, it's a matter of being cost effective. I purchase the card by the amount per GB!

Many people prefer to take a number of smaller cards, for fear they will fail. That is certainly possibility, although a small one. I prefer to take the largest card I can. I think there is a greater chance of damaging the card or losing it when removing, than there is of the card failing. Just my opinion.

I agree that you are better off with several smaller cards for the reasons mentioned.

Aside from cards malfunctioning, cameras have been know to mysteriously disappear. So store your cards away from your camera when not in use.

Enjoy your trip.
