I just got a new lens Sigma 70-200mm f2.8, so wanted to try it out on my daughter. It seems like all the pictures have a white haze to them ??? Both pictures were shoot at focal length of 70mm,1/30, f/4, iso 100. I do not like shooting people but my wife thinks I should before the kids are gone from the house!! Any help would be a big Help!! Thanks

Check your white Balance. Color corrected using curves in PS. I blew the whites out just a touch on the dress on purpose to show its not the lens or camera. Last picture is not blown out. The other picture has the same problem.

I understand what you are talking about. I have a lens that does the same thing. I can correct it very easily but would like to know what causes it too. What is len's calibration? I was wondering if that would help.

I do not think that it is the lens, I think it is in the setting that we are using. But I'm not sure how to correct it???

Try your White balance.

Go to google and ask.

How to set the white balance on camera XXX where XXX is your camera. This should help you.

Temperature of sun varies. Some cameras have a cloudy day setting.

I have heard it's best not to wear something white. (blowing out) and yes it takes longer to find them after they have moved out.

in other words, you are not seeing or recording haze in either image but you are seeing and recording soft light.

Auto white-balance might be the best setting to use until you learn more about what your camera-lens can and can not do. Did you use the portriat setting? If you did that might explain the soft looking image. Most all the comments we make assume others are using manual or M.

The two most common causes of this problem are, (1) Lens Flare; caused by light reflecting off of the other glass elements within the lens, usually noticeable more at longer focal lenghts.

(2) Low contrast, or poor light transmission common to lower quality lenses. Both conditions, usually are related to poor low quality lenses and coatings. Sigma unfortunately - has never been the best. :)
