The Brown Pelicans in the Galapagos were a kick, especially when we spent some time in a rookery. Another great opportunity is shooting Brown's in breeding plumage at La Jolla Cover in San Diego. I don't seen any frigate birds in any of your photos or perhaps I did not look hard enough. I believe the bird taking a ride on the pelican in the water is a Lava Gull. Great shots, love seeing them. thanks for sharing.
Very nice, I like the one with the pelicans on the cooler Fran
Thanks, Fran. That one was irresistible. Unfortunately, I had to shoot from a very awkward place. Where I wanted to stand was piled high with fish ready to sell!

Well, I wondered about that. But that's what the guide said it was. I assumed he knew. But it didn't look like the other frigates I shot.
Yes, they are wonderful to watch. Thanks so much for looking.
When I was on the Galapagos, I found lots of pelis to shoot! I enjoy them because they can be regal, funny, agile, awkward, and sometimes all of the above at once! So here are some of my favorite pelican shots from the Galapagos.
