On the one hand glad I didn't get there, on the other hand not having been feel almost like a fraud saying I'm a veteran.

You are no fraud. You served and that earned you the honor of saying I’M A VETERAN!

Navy ‘56-62 and a proud veteran.

USS JOhn Hood DD-655 and USS Peterson DE-152

Thank you very much.

I served in Nam with the 199th Light Infantry and the 1st Cavalry

I was in an armored unit (1st Armored Division, Old Ironsides) at Ft. Hood, Texas in ‘70 and ‘71. In ‘71, when the brought the 1st Cavalry back from Vietnam, we went from the 1st Armored Division to the Cav. I still have my Class A uniform with the Cav patch on the left shoulder.

USN River Rat 68-70, three different river division, 531, 543, 571, 250 night ambush and patrols. Lost a good friend there and just last December lost one here.

I can’t stand the playing of the anthem at sports stadiums and the expectation that it is somehow sacred . I didn’t expect that the first amendment would not be understood by a president.

Old men send you men to war.

I only saw Spooky or Puff the Magic Dragon work out once one night,,,with the tracers looked like an almost solid red streak all the way to the ground,,,,the ragged noise of the guns and the bullets impacting the ground sounded like a herd of buffalo stampeding,,,,I never saw an Arc Light or ever was close to one,,,,my Neighbor down the street a few blocks away flew Spooky and was Shot Down,,,DSC or DFC,,,Silver Star,,,,Purple Heart,,,,You guys saved a lot of Lives,,,,not many enemy survived being on the receiving end of that Firepower....

Every fifth round is a tracer if I remember correctly. Puff the Magic Dragon was incredible.

It's been 50 years but I could still mark some of our targets today if I had a map. The tracers were supposed to burn out before they hit the ground but it's entirely possible they were not 3,000 ft above the ground in a 30 degree bank which was the designed altitude to hit the target, as seen through the pipper, printed on a piece of plastic, mounted on the side window. Had an Arc Light near DaNang one night, boom, boom, boom, boom, boom, etc for several minutes. The next day flight out we could see the craters, we called them peter tracks across the jungle. We didn't fire on targets in the daytime, day flights were mostly courier stuff.

I'm asking, been a long time. Wasn't Arc Light B-52's dropping 2000 lb-ers. I remember they had to be more than 2 clicks from friendly troops to be dropped. Remember feeling the ground rumble and the light view of the mt ridge when they were dropping them two mt ridges over atnight. I think I was at An Hoa at the time.

I think some of the F4 Phantoms from Ubon, Thailand used to drop 2000 pounders either in Laos or Vietnam. I worked on AC-130A gunships but saw them loading up all the time as I passed by on the tarmac.

B52s dropped 500 lb bombs(Mk 82s) from their internal bomb bays. Anything else was from wing stations, which were usually 750 lb bombs(M117s). I was an ammo troop who assembled the bombs.
