To our Vietnam Veterans

My wife and I visited Eagles Nest, N.M. last weekend, and they have a Vietnam Memorial there created by a man whose son died in country in an ambush. This was the first memorial created in the U.S. honoring those vets from all the Services. I took two photos of a UH-1 Huey they have on display, and a photo of a plaque on a wall. I wanted to post these in honor of all of our Vietnam vets on here. I served from 1969 to 1971 but never went over. Thank you from the bottom of my heart for answering the call and keeping us free. It is noted and deeply appreciated.

I was a Corporal (E4) US Marines. I was in a MATCU unit at the air wing in Beaufort, S.C.
I lost a few people I knew back in high school due to the war. My father was a Marine with 2 Purple Hearts from WWII.

This is a lovely tribute and it's so nice you stopped to photograph it. That was the war of my era, and I had friends who went. Some who died. Some who didn't, but came back different. It was the first war that had daily press coverage, and I think it was that coverage that developed people's attitude about it. Instead of presenting the soldiers as brave and dedicated, the press pointed out the drug and other substance abuse. I'm sure there was some of both.

Thanks from Texas also. I served from 1966 through 1974 but also never was sent to Viet Nam but several other foreign assignments. Like so many, I lost friends and will never forget when I had tours back in the states, seeing the C 141's come in loaded with our fallen.

I'm an Army Vietnam Vet 1966-67. I worked on Army helicopters such as the one in your picture. My job was aircraft engine repair and change out. While I was there I only saw one occasion of marijuana being used. We were out on the tarmac working, a bunch of us came back at the end of our shift and one G.I. was smoking a joint in the barracks. We picked him up and through him out, he learned his lesson as he never smoked around any of us again. To this day that incident was the only time I have ever smelled marijuana and I still remember the smell like it was yesterday.
I thank all the service men and women that served and kept us safe as we did our job on the line.

I was in the Army from 1964 through 1967 and was stationed in Germany for most of the time, never saw Vietnam and am glad of it, but I have a lot of respect for those who did. Thanks for posting.

Navy, 1954 - 1964. East coast destroyers. Last duty station was as recruiter in Baltimore. Had I stayed in extremely unlikely I would have gone to the west coast and then on the "Nam.
On the one hand glad I didn't get there, on the other hand not having been feel almost like a fraud saying I'm a veteran.
