You can keep FedEx. I swear some of there drivers can't read. I only use UPS or USPS.

Even making that long round trip it still arrived the next day.

Planes are pretty fast. : )

When I follow a package online, it's easy to tell if it's traveling by air or ground. I see how long it takes to get from the west coast to the east. Sometimes, it will leave on a Monday morning, and there is no more activity for several days. Then I know it's riding cross country in a truck.

The wife and I are a long haul truck driving team. One of our favorite runs was hauling AIR FREIGHT from Chicago to Miami.

I am also an ebayer, different accounts for buyer and seller. I've had a few USPS packages get a bit smushed, but otherwise OK. I'vee had quite a few Fedex boxes that look like an angry robot dog got to them. How hard do you drop a bubble wrapped lebs in a box to knock that small glass lens out the bottom? I had a go around with one supplier- three day priority Fedex. Two weeks later- it;s still on the truck. They told the shipper I had a bad address change; and they'd tell me it was on it's way. It was delivered to the wrong address three times. It was lost in their Carson office for a week. it was finally returned to the shipper. They had broken the box and ripped the label, and said nothing. So when they read the label qrong, they updated my Fedex account with the wrong address, even tho my ebay and Paypal info never changed. After the shipper and I exchanged the email logs from Fedex we realized how bogus they are are, and he kindly sent me another product.
Fedex. Many of their drivers are contractors. They buy the trucks, Fedex subsidizes them per services rendered, and they pick up and deliver. Here in Los Angeles, that driver may have another day job, and someone else gets to deliver the packages he picked up. Regulations were changed: a driver doesn't have to be a citizen, nor speak English, as Google Maps works anyway.
After more than a few broken open and badly retaped boxes, broken lenses, dented hard drives and a folded up laptop, I have Fedex deliver to a shipping node a mile from me, and I pick them up there. That works for me.

Ahhh! I forgot one thing. I've also been a certified IT Tech, and I get to test beta software, get discounts, etc from Microsoft. EVERY time they Fedex something with that Microsoft return address, a fragile sticker, and a "media enclosed" print on it, it comes to my door- ripped taped and empty. Every time.

I just received a computer shipped by UPS.
All the corners were crumpled. *sigh*
I open the box- the shipper had wrapped it in bubble wrap. But no tape, so half the unit was out, and all the bubble wrap was piled up on the other end.
I *just* notified the shipper it was DOA.
We shall see.

A tale of 4 packages. Camera gear, all.

Package 1 : Shipped from Virginia to me in west Texas. Location by days: VA, Knoxville, Prescott AZ, Houston, Dallas, Dallas, Dallas, Ft. Worth, Lubbock TX, Midland Tx, me. 11 total days and the route circled my location twice. (small item, free shipping from seller)

Package 2 : Shipped Last Thursday. Virginia, 46 miles north to Maryland, 24 miles back south to Martinsville WV (grand total of 46 miles from original location), Indianapolis, and Chicago today. Chicago!!! ...... At this rate it will reach the north pole by Tuesday. (heavier item, maybe 7 pounds, but charged 25 bucks to ship.)

Package 3 : Shipped from me Monday, delivered in the DC area this morning at 9:20 AM eastern, 48 hours. (8 dollar ship of a small 4 pound package)

Package 4 : Shipped from Miami area Monday, in my hand right now, less than 55 hours later. (Seller bargained for a 5 dollar ship fee, 2.5 pounds.)

I'd be curious to know if others have had this kind of discrepancy in service times. FedEx, and anyone shipping with them, are about to lose my business.
A tale of 4 packages. Camera gear, all. br br ... (show quote)

Well just go to the store next time and stop crying.
