That's another misconception. The fact that you are in the 25% bracket means that "the last dollars earned" may be taxed 25%. But, using single as an example, the first $9325 is still taxed at 10%, from $9,326 to $37,950 is taxed at 15%, from $37,951 to $91,900 is taxed at 25%.
So, if you are in the 25% tax bracket only your earning above $37,950 are taxed at 25%. And those taxes are applied to your adjusted gross income, the amount that is reduced by exemptions and deductions. Take a look at your income tax return and figure what the real percentage was that you paid. It will be considerably less than 25%. Now start working a little harder during that last 10 hours of the week.
