Was having difficulty photographing blue jays because when I would pitch down a raw peanut in the shell they would swoop down and grab it (sometimes on the fly) and be back up in the tree before I could even find them in the viewfinder. So I tried pitching down 3 or 4 peanuts at a time and it solved the problem. Now they land and take a few seconds to survey the choices and make a decision of which peanut to take and this gives me enough time to capture their image. Not only that but instead of flying high up among the branches to eat they stay on a lower branch to keep an eye on the remaining peanuts so they can swoop down and grab another soon as they are finished with that one. This allows me to get a shot of them in the tree. Trying to outsmart a Blue Jay is exhausting.
Great job and funny explanation!

This is an excellent set....Rich
Very nice series! Grandpaw
He might be training you. Good shots.
All good shots but that fifth one is outstanding.
Excellent captures, Richard! This was a win-win situation. You got your shots and the Jays got extra peanuts!
Fabulous shots-worth every peanut!
Glad you figured it out. Nice set.
Fun contribution, Richard. Sometimes you do have to trick Mother Nature's citizens to get some great images.
Looks like it was worth the effort. Nice job.
Blue jays are one of my favorite birds. Good captures of them.

Very good, nice shots!!! I love watching them choose....they eyeball it, look it over, pick them up (weight check ?) pick one and off they go. They will walk up behind a squirrel and let out a loud Blue Jay scream to scare the squirrel, and take off with the squirrel's nut too.
