IMHO, 2 cents worth, et. al., I actually like the elements. The flowers draw you in to the "plow" or whatever is in the background and the blur is good. I think the missing compositional element is to add an angle [or really stopped down on the apreture to get a deep DOF] and it would have been a storytelling picture. Of course this is NOT what you set out to do but I think you stumbled into something.

Actually I wanted it all but I wanted my bee clear. I wanted the farm equipment blurry. Flowers definitely wrong angle. What could I have done to accomplish that goal? Is it possible? I know I should add tripod though that might be hard on that hill. But is there a lens and focal distance that should give me clarity with flower and busy bee with DOF blur of equipment or as stated above do I need that concept adjustment and forgo the dream of capturing this vision?

I have a Canon 70-300 IS zoom, if you don't need the IS Canon makes a 70-300 zoom fairley cheap. This lense can do what you want. If you don't get IS (Image Stabilized) I recommend Tripod or Monopod.

LOL... I find a picture I like and try and replicate it. It's great practice. I have asked the owners of the pictures on this forum by PM'ing them how they did it. Each of them told me just how they did it including settings, equipment, lots of them tent the flowers to prevent wind and all sorts of tricks. I like close-up stuff too. I am trying macro but don't really understand why my close-ups aren't macros - but I am closing in on the difference. Good luck!

The photos from other photographers have more of the close up details I want. Maybe I can get up close and personal to get the shot of beeyou and flowerI and still get the blur of farm equipment. Now if I just don't get shot! I can see the headlines now....
Actually there have been several times that I have seen some pretty cool stuff in people yards. I have knocked on their doors and asked for permission to photograph and I have never been turned away yet!

As I was once told, a macro image with a 105mm macro lens is taken at approximately six inches.
