Yes and they are good and so I think he pretended that he didn’t know that his D850 shutter speed can be set in 1/3 stop increment.

Exactly! And look how much thinking everybody had to do to come up with an answer-that is unless they got extraordinarily agitated that he would even DARE to ask such a question....really rather amusing.

As an Example, my Nikon D850 set at 1/4000 (manual mode), the next jump is 1/5000. Why can I not choice 1/4500 or 1/4250, as an example? I was under the impression that manual meant manual? Am I missing a step regarding this category?

Since each shutter speed changes the exposure one stop, how in the hell do you deal with that. Same as using an aperture control with no click stops. If each click of aperture is one stop, how would you measure exposure.

No set shutter speeds, plus no measured aperture????????????? The exposure triad just "BLEW UP".

This must be your first online forum. Topics can go for 15 or 20 pages on questions far less "interesting" than this one

I believe that shutter speeds and apertures are set to standard values when being set manually. In semi- or full-auto mode either parameter, or both, can be set to other in-between values if that parameter is being set automatically. So for example, in aperture mode, there are more shutter speeds available to the camera than when you set shutter speed manually.

Good point even in the analog days aperture priority shutter speeds were "stepless" so as to be as precise as possible.

Use your exposure compensation to go down in overall exposure. You can use the flash compensation the same way when using a flash.

Most likely the majority of people couldn't see the difference in anything less than a 1/3 stop change. A good number of those that can probably post process where even a JPG has that much wiggle room.

On the flip side, more people would probably be confused by the extra options than would benefit. UHH would be flooded with topics like "Should I use 1/253 or one 1/257 when taking a picture of my mother-in-law on our upcoming trip to the Grand Canyon, or should I leave her home?"

Writers of course could fill pages with the benefits and consequences, and what cameras are more accurate.

IMHO

Seriously, how accurate are todays shutters with 1/3 second increments?

You thought everyone knew this? What gave you that impression?

Of course not everyone knows this, but I suspect that some folks here, including me, assumed you would have understood these relatively basic details since you own a high end camera. However, in the end, its how you use the camera and the results you get that counts, not your understanding of all the technical details.

You missed the point. I know all about getting the right exposure. Your comment doesn't clarify anything.

Easy there dude. You should be thankful folks are responding. Learn to take ALL kinds of advice, they are only trying to help. Remember it takes more muscles to frown than smile.

Stop your whining. Why are you making up stories? I don't have you or anyone else blocked. If that was the case, you would not have been allowed to post on my thread.
