check and see if there is an app for your cell phone, I know Canon has one... and it's free :)

OK, so if I'm thinking straight...from what I see, flash is not an option with these units that sit in the hot shoe, unless it's remote off camera. Correct?

Seriously, Use the app specifically for your D-500. Snapbridge allows you to live view and focus through your smart phone, and trigger it.

I'm not exactly thrilled with the speed of using it for transferring files to my phone, but the other features are my 3 favorite things.

1. Free
2. Works VERY well
3. Free.

With, the added bonus that it's FREE. (not sure if I mentioned that)

Snapbridge is an undependable POS application. Works fine, then 5 minutes later won't. Plus WiFi on Nikon's is a total battery drain. I've had my D850 in Airplane mode since I took it out of the box.

I've had the complete opposite experience. Maybe it's the D850's battery? My EnEl15a kicks butt. The original ENEL15s did go through juice like crazy. Nikon updated all my originals for free.

Hot shoe works fine. It doesn't have a built in pop up flash, which I haven't used since the D-70. You can add on any flash that works with a Nikon, they just did us all a favor and removed the pop up.

I admit, I thought I would use the pop up flash as a commander, but wireless radio is so much easier and foolproof. (and I'm the fool to prove it)
