I just looked at light room/Photoshop and there are two options for $9.95/mo. One you get lightroom and photoshop with 20gb of storage and the other you just get lightroom with 1tb of storage. I am an armature and new to digital photograph and interested in wildlife and landscape photography. I am not interested in abstract photo art. Would I be better of sticking with lightroom and getting the extra storage?

Unless you especially want to store your images on the cloud and not on your computer I think the $9.99 Photography package is the way to go.
Photoshop offers a lot more for photographers than 'abstract art'.
I use the Lightroom Classic CC which is the computer based version of the program.
I do about 95% of my post processing in LR and the other 5% in PS.

Find the "Creative Cloud Photography plan" listed in the US on the Adobe site for US$9.99/mo. The two software together are the primary focus of the subscription, not the size or availability of online storage.

I agree - for ten bucks a month you can start at the top and have it all. Another $90.00 and you can get 4tb of storage space by using an external hard drive.

Light Room does 95% of what most people want to do to their images. Unless you are into layers etc. But there are some things Photo Shop either does differently and a lot that Light Room doesn't have at all.
As to the 20GB vs 1TB of online storage - I don't do online/cloud storage except sites where it is part of the posting package and then I still have all my images stored on my hard drives and external hard drives.
Do you trust some third party server farm to A. stay in business B. not get hacked C. fire or other disaster (small chance and it could happen at home)

Side issue, I don't think you are an "Armature" - you are an "amateur". The "ure" is a very common misspelling and the extra "r" (or any other letter) is really easy to do with a sensitive keyboard. Not to mention it comes from French and from one year of that in high school I am convinced they try to confuse people with the spellings. A huge number of silent letters in their words.

Sorry about the spelling!!! Engineers are required to be poor spellers.

Well, you should certainly know what to do with an armature.

Sort of like Doctors are required to have such poor handwriting that it looks like a drunk chicken was scratching on the paper.

It depends. If you are interested in just really great proofs, then LR is all you need. If you want to make professional looking truly finished images, then you need Photoshop. You can get around dealing with LR since it's editor is the same as Adobe Camera Raw in Photoshop. I think we share some interests in photography. I use LR/PS, On1, Nik, DXO, Capture One, Helicon Focus, Photomatix Pro, etc.

The cost of one TB storage in the cloud is a lot more than a 2 TB drive in or near your computer. Just sayin'

I use LR Classic CC for initial processing and finish up in PS CC. At $10/ mo a bargain

I was on the Lightroom/Photoshop 9.99/mth plan from the beginning...but always only a LR user. I was never happy with the interaction with mobile, and for that matter, found Adobe's mobile options difficult to understand.

Something compelled me to pull the trigger on the LR CC option when they offered it. It was a fearful day as 12K + photos began the file transfer to the Cloud. That process took awhile and made me very nervous. But at the end they all successfully transferred and were immediately available to me for search (via metadata) on my phone. Even though they are in raw I can immediately (from the phone) export them to jpg and send them in mail or to another app. This was (for me) a huge benefit over the Classic program. I was also surprised that with over 12K photos, I'm only using a small fraction of my available storage.

I still edit on my MacBook Pro. It's not quite as robust, but it is very good, and continually improving. I am considering some one-off options like Affinity Photo or Pixelmator to supplement my workflow as I try to do some more complex editing. Would be interested in feedback in those - and how they interact with LR CC.

But just wanted to say I have been surprised and impressed with Adobe LR's Cloud based option.

I travel to too many places that still do not have reliable internet access to use the cloud. Cloud is not an option for me.

Personally, I have the basic Adobe $9.99 package of Lightroom and Photoshop. I don't use the cloud for storage. I just put certain images on it that I "might" want to show. I have a WD Cloud drive, which sits on the floor under my desk and is connected to my network. Any computer on my network (assuming that the computer has the software installed) can access the WD Cloud drive to save, edit or delete images on the drive. This Cloud is available to me when I'm out anywhere that I have access to Wi-Fi and also to my cell phone. Their drives are available in anything from 1TB up to hundreds of TB. They have chassis available that are for large enterprise settings. I use this for getting my shots out of the camera and off my laptop back to home when I travel, giving me a "backup" that is off site to my trip. Plus, the WD Cloud is automatically backed up by my network backup system and I keep copies of that off site. The other nice thing is that it is a 1 time charge for the system and not a monthly add on. And yes, I do have the "basic" Adobe small cloud that comes with the Lightroom Photoshop thing. I do occasionally use Photoshop so it's nice to have.

Let's clear the air...........If you own a graphics studio PS is an absolute must. NO ifs ands or buts, period! If you're a PHOTOGRAPHER, LR is the way to go. Do not call yourself a photographer if you're good at putting a line of type around a beer bottle. You're brilliant at graphics, but perhaps not photography. Photoshop is just too, too ,much, stuff a photographer will never use. For straight photography, LR is the way to go.
