Super shots David and amusing tale to go with them. That stuff has the potential to cause mayhem, ha ha

Like " Money for nothing,I wish I had one." FYI. If you live where there are spicebush silk moths, look for cocoons on Sassafras and tulip poplar in winter. I had one on my dining table in a potted plant. I came home to a dozen males on the screen. I raised many saturniads, and a fresh eclosed female attracts a mate over hundreds of meters. The females emerge and wait for them. After they mate, then she leaves the site of the cocoon to lay eggs.

Thanks Brenda. Yes, it does get you wondering. If I was just 50 years younger with the right pheromone in my pocket!

Hello newtoyou. Interesting. What I am doing is just putting the lure on a bush. I let the males flutter around when they come in, rather than netting them. Generally one or two will decide to settle and once settled they generally won't move. Get my shots and leave them be. Would an artificial female encourage them to settle. They seem to be looking for something else to home in on once they have located the general area. David

They are confused. They smell the female, so they think. They home in and get close. Now they need a cold shower. No consummation. If a number of males show at once, do they attempt to mate with each other? I have raised all of Md.native giant silkworm moths down to I O moths( eye oh) . Have two male, one female Imperial moth pupa I raised in 2017 ,just waiting for eclosure. Have a good evening, Bill
