Male Emperor Moths (Saturnia pavonia) attracted using a pheromone lure. Hard to comprehend the power of pheromones. I had been handling the lure and had it in the pocket of my jacket. Drove for some miles and pulled off the road. Within minutes a moth flew around the car and then in through the open window eventually settling on my jacket.

A " prank " would be to put a dab of Japanese beetle pheromone on someone in season.

By the way. Anyone supplying me with some eggs of MOST of the large silkworm moths, I will pay postage, and if successful in rearing, will return pupa. RSVP to private if interested. Can also explain how to get eggs and rearing techniques. Bill

Hello Mark. They are stunning. This is the UK's only resident member of the Saturniidae family. A casual glance at this one sitting on the heather looks a bit like a bird.

For U.S. & Canada species, there is this person (also named Bill): http://www.silkmoths.bizland.com/indexos.htm You can navigate around and find other species, including African, European, and Australian species.
