Not necessarily. I've owned both Nikon (film only) and Canon Digital (T2i), but never compared them to each other. I use Fuji S5 Pros (I have four of them) exclusively and take a lot of 'Flak' because of their low (12.2) Megapixel number. However, having an open mind and care MORE about Results ( as any Professional should) than specifications (or Rules, for that matter), I did test my Fuji against a Canon T2i (18.1 Mp) with a Tamron SP 17-50mm f2.8 lens. The Fuji had a Tamron SP 17-35 f2.8, so lenses should not be a major issue (Both same brand; both same max aperture; both approximately same/similar focal length (17-35 against 17-50). One would expect the Canon T2i, with 150% the number of Mps as the Fuji to be superior- at least in resolution. WRONG! See attached.
Image 1- both cameras (Canon above Fuji) taken at max aperture of f2.8 at max tele setting. Make your own judgment.
Image 2- both cameras (Canon above Fuji) taken at aperture of f8.0 at max tele setting. Make your own judgment.
Image 3- both cameras (Canon above Fuji) taken at max aperture of f2.8 at max wide angle setting. Make your own judgment.
Image 4- both cameras (Canon above Fuji) taken at aperture of f8.0 at max wide angle setting. Make your own judgment.
NONE of the images were retouched in ANY manner except for Red text ID typed in via Photoshop CS3.
Also, not only does the Fuji exceed the Canon in Resolution, it is also superior in both Contrast and Color quality and Saturation. Actually and under proper lighting conditions, the Fuji images are similar to Canon & Nikon images taken with a Circular Polarizer.
Bottom line: I'll buy a better camera when someone makes one )I haven't used the new Fuji mirrorless!)
