I have been using Canon D5 IV for years with L lenses. I am finding that often my photos are not as sharp as they should be. My friend has the equivalent Nikon camera with equivalent lenses. His photos seem to be much sharper than mine. Does anyone have any similar experiences.

This is a moot argument that has gone on for too many years. No one can look at a photograph and tell which brand of camera/lens took the picture because there are too many variables at play.

If you would like a detailed analysis of areas to improve in using your current equipment, post 1 or a few original JPEG images, store the original, and ask for ways to improve your results with your current equipment.

You have a good camera and L lenses, if nothing is broken then operator error comes to mind. Camera Shake, poor focussing, jabbing on the shutter release etc. Borrow your friend's Nikon and try it. I doubt if the images are any different on the Nikon to the Canon.;

The simple answer is that if you have Canon 5D Mark IV and your photos aren't sharp, you the shooter, are most likely at fault.

It's not the equipment, it's you. Since your friend's pictures turn out better than yours, ask for help to improve your own. Changing equipment won't improve your pictures, but knowledge and practice will. After all, people catch amazing photos on even the most basic, entry level camera and kit lense combinations.

Two suggestions:
a) Increase Shutter Speed / Use a Tripod
b) BUY BETTER GLASS

Jcor, most of the time is not the camera but who's behind it. When I say that is because the EXPERIENCE of the person behind is what makes or brakes the shot. You cant blame the camera all the time. Today the technology brings them very close to each other - of course one brand could be a tide more advanced than another but not so much that the difference would really mater. Both Canon and Nikon are two fantastic cameras and I don't see dropping one brand for the other. I am a Nikon user for a long time and my son is a Canon user. We both are happy with what we got and we both don't see reason to change.
