Since you are asking, you already have doubts. Good. No one else seems to think it is a good idea.

Micro SD are fine to use. I haven't tried it, but my understanding is that a Micro SD card formatted on one type of device will not be readable on another without help. You can't just use one in a camera and have the phone read it as they are different platforms. Generally, Android phones use FAT formatting while cards over 32 GB use ExFAT. Windows can read ExFat with no problem but phones don't, even if both are storing JPGs. (I don't know about Apple)

Smaller is better. For less than $10, you can get a hardshell, waterproof case the size of a man's wallet that will hold 12 SD cards. When I travel to Europe, I take 2, one empty and one containing 12 16GB fast SD cards. (I also take along a laptop and 2 1TB LaCie hard drives that I back up to daily.) When balking at paying a reasonable price for memory, ask yourself, "What are my images worth?"

I read past 99.999% of the grammar, spelling, and punctuation muffs on any board.
This particular one happened to catch me.
(Not that I have never screwed up!)

While true, since both sets of contacts are gold plated, as long as they are assembled clean, I don't worry about it.

The price on that card is too good to be true. You know what they say about stuff the is too good to be true. Also, it's not any kind of name brand I know of. I don't know who makes it because it just says generic. I wouldn't trust it. But, you don't have much to lose so let us know how it works out for you.

The plating is not the only issue - contact material is also a big consideration. And the plating on cheap contacts is likely to at least be partially removed on the first mating. My background is as a long time component engineering manager and reliability engineer for a large electronics firm as well as a component reliability consultant for the International Space Station's power system.

While failure of a microSD does not have the dire consequences of that of millions of consumer products or the ISS, anyone who lost once in a lifetime images due to a desire to buy the cheapest components might feel terrible about it.

I didn't say it wasn't a potential problem, I didn't say don't worry about it, I said "I" don't worry about it. Yes, it's very possible that the plating is thinner on less expensive chips.

(Interesting - we have something in common - I was a Component Test Engineer for 25 years who wrote test programs and was responsible for the quality of ICs and semiconductors that went to stock. Also assisting with failure analysis of these in the field and production. But only for a telephone switching systems manufacturer, not the International Space Station.)
