Street award winning photos were judged by capturing the moment.

So smart phones should have an advantage, but not all time true.

But magazines photos(fashion, outdoor, motor etc) are taken with Dslr;

End of discussion. Final. no mas

Well that's good to know. Perhaps the admins can go back and delete the 753 threads where this was previously settled?

Interesting. The eighth photo down of the 100 is shot with a phone. And, of course, most of the photos are from the film era. Only a matter of time before more and more quality cellphone photos enter into the more formal view arenas. And more National Geographic photographers than ever before have been leaving their larger DSLRs at home in favor of Fuji, Sony, Olympus, and Panasonic for certain assignments. Sometimes the smaller, less obtrusive, "amateur", "tourist" camera has a better chance of helping an assignment's completion.

I look at my iPhone as being the equivalent of the old Rollei 35 I used to carry with me at all times for an opportunity shot. I got some great pictures over the years, but if I wanted to go out seeking photo opportunities, I'd take a more purpose-suited tool. Amazing that I now have a tool the size of a pack of playing cards (and less than half as thick) that provides a more capable equivalent today, as well as a mini computer, address book, day planner, calculator, set of maps, etc. etc. etc. Oh, and it's a mobile telephone as well!

I am not one of those senior citizens who bemoans the "good old days" in any way.

I most definitely do not bemoan the film days!!!!

yes, case closed.
One is for casual, the other serious.
I hope my last words would not create any new arguments.

No argument, but I know people who do mind blowing work on a cell phone. I assure you they are as serious as we lucky ones who can afford higher end equipment.A few shoot high end cameras too. Just another challenge.

Guess cellphones fall short when it comes to spell check.

For me, it's a matter of looking at it primarily as a system issue. I can expand a DSLR system according to my needs, almost without limitation. I don't think you can say that about cameras in phones without being pretty restrictive on your needs.

What conundrum?

But ion is a word. Why would a spell checker flag it as being misspelled? It's correctly spelled. It's the wrong word.

And by the way, I sometimes type i for e and vice versa. I don't look at my hands when I type on a keyboard. Both letters are typed with my middle finger, and sometimes my brain sends the signal to the wrong hand. How's that for going off topic?

My wife and I have noticed that our new Galaxy S9+ cellphones have been very proactive in correcting our spelling - even when we have spell a word correctly! Everything that I put on UHHs has to be read to find what words the spell check may have automatically "corrected" for me.

You may suffer from dyslexia, undiagnosed.

Seems to only happen while typing. Maybe some previously undiscovered brain disorder. I think I'll leave my brain to science. On second thought.....

I can't afford carrying an expensive smart phone in my pocket which is subjected to drop, stolen, misplaced, scratches.
I hate to see when my Dslr pictures are worse than other people's SP's but my SP pictures are worse than my Dslr's.
So I will keep on shooting Dslr.

OK, this is it, really end of discussion, no mas.

Sorry,I am going to exercise my first amendment rights. You have the right to not read this. For you who have not seen what a cell phone will do with add on lenses. I don't claim these to be anything special, but I will say I was surprised and pleased.1&2 are a normal, then a 50 x shot of same boat. The rest were with a 235 degree fisheye.

Perhaps you should make your UHH posts through your Galaxy S9, based on this post.
