I know, and I should have for clarity.

Thanks. I have and like that lens. I also had the 15 85 lens, and it seemed sharper. The bigger issue for me then is which one for a European trip.

It would depend upon your priorities. Versatility or weight. The 15-85 probably is slightly superior. Also, depending upon what part of Europe a wide angle such as the EF-S 10-18 IS is optically good while being small and light, if small and light is your objective.

For future ref, the Canon serial number is on the bottom of the camera body. For lenses, the s/n can be in one of a few places.

Also, the camera serial number is recorded in the EXIF data. As we know, shutter count is not included in Canon EXIF data, but can be retrieved by other methods.

I just purchased and received a new Canon 77d from Amazon Prime at the Canon-authorized sale price. It arrived in perfect condition in perfect packing and works perfectly. However, there was no USA/Canada warrantee registration card included for filling out. (See Ken Rockwell's caution about this issue.) There is an enclosed color single-page thing saying that if I go online to register the camera, I'll get a special offer to include free accidental damage coverage, but there still isn't anything showing that my serial number matches a serial number on a warrantee card. Should I be concerned? If so, should I just return the camera and purchase it from B&W? I had always thought Amazon was one of the select trusted vendors.

There is an online registration process available on the Canon website. Cameras purchased directly from Amazon itself, and not a third party seller are legitimate USA models and are sold at the authorized Canon price. Amazon is an authorized Canon dealer. What you have to be careful with on Amazon, are items sold by a third party vendor. Those are often gray market. A tell tale sign is if the camera is priced significantly less than B&H or other Canon dealers. If the item doesn't say sold by and shipped by Amazon, it is sold by a third party.

Try this.
If it works then you got a USA product.
If not you got a grey market product.

you should always be concerned - because Canon and Nikon are the rip-off companies of the century when it comes to warranties ! They will find any way in the world to screw you.

If you buy an Apple phone in the US and it breaks in Europe - there is a no questions asked policy that they will repair it under warranty.

Most quality firms operate this way. Only in the camera industry have these companies figured out out to screw their customers.

Thanks to all who responded with such good information. As I mentioned earlier, I found the official waranty. It had slipped down the side of the box. OP.

I would re-read the ad you read to buy the camera. If it was an "import" model, Amazon will disclose that fact. Canon WILL repair any camera it manufacturers, even a gray model.

A hearty thank you and apology to all who have or might later reply to my concern. I just dug out the entire box and discovered that somehow the warranty card had apparently slipped down into the side of the packing material inside the box. The serial number is stamped on it, and it matches the camera--so, no concerns. Sorry for the premature post. All is well in Whoville.

Sometimes it pays to thoroughly look before you post. Hey stuff happens. Glad all is well. Also that add sounds very much like the additional protection plans so many retailers love to sell.

I recently bought a refurbished lens directly from Canon complete with a full 1 year warranty, just as if it were sold new at retail. I could not figure out how to register it so I called Canon to ask. Per the conversation, I do not have to do anything unless I have a problem, other than keep all my paperwork which includes the bill of sale, which in turn does have a serial number, etc. If a problem arises, provided I can prove I purchased it during the proper time frame I am to contact Canon for directions as to returning it for repair or replacement. Just keep your paper work!

I recently had my 7D MKII lost by FedEx and replaced by Canon USA. I noticed the warranty card was missing and contacted Canon. They didn’t know why the new camera didn’t have the card, but it was fully covered.

You can go on the official Canon website and get a list of all authorized Canon dealers in the USA and even Canada if you like. Better safe than sorry...Good luck and hope it works out for you? Keep us posted with the results....
