Only my two cents, if you exclude archived images, then you may exclude a large population of UHH users. For example Ice Cold is very difficult for a Florida resident and as Festina Lente indicated "Hot & Dry" eliminates half of the country, if the images have to be taken within the contest timeframe. Perhaps the image should be taken within the last twelve months?? Gary

I just wanted to double underscore that the latest weekly photography challenge has new rules!

One new rule although not compulsary we should not be submitting archive images. Out of the 10 on there so far I have checked and none of them were shot this week. I do apologise if your image was not from archives because 2 of 10 had the exif data striped and I could not check.

The second new rule is that ALL entries MUST include a description. The more elaborate the better. Can I please point out that the little girl splashing in the water feature is an excellent image but the description remains as "untitled". This will not be allowed as of this week so if possible I suggest you try and add a description to it.

Come on guys n gals stop with the archives and get creative! Shoot your entries the week the challenge comes out.

Exactly the opposite. A challenge is supposed to be challenging and if you do not have ice in one form you have to think how you get a shot of some ice. People should be thinking and developing to be more creative. The themes are very broad. Ice cold does not mean you have to shoot something icy. You could submit a portrait of somebody wrapped up in their winter wear or an ice cube in a cold drink. None of the themes will exclude anybody from the competition we just need think outside of the box!

This weeks challenge "Wet" does not limit you to shooting out doors. A dripping tap, cold drink, sweat beads or a dogs nose are all things that are wet.

this is an excellent idea - ie to have a competition like this. I am sorry but I have also put in an archived picture. However, as soon as I can take a "wet" picture I will replace it!!!!

I am glad you are thinking of shooting a new image not from archives. Trust me it will help improve your photography as it will get you thinking. I think in order to replace an image you will have to contact St3v3M as there is only one submission allowed per user. Not a problem he mentioned there is a way to swap a submission somewhere.

There were several photos in last weeks challenge that anyone could have taken that illustrated ice cold. That is the challenge, find something ice cold when it is 105.

I have never entered a weekly contest before or uploaded any images before. That said, I attempted to upload an entry for WET. I could find no place ( could be eyesight ) to add a description and when I hit the upload button I was informed that it could not be accepted , that only one submission per week was allowed. Would appreciate any tips on what to do. Thanks!

When you click the browse button to find your image title and location (file location on your drive not your geographic location) appears in the box next to it. The description is entered in the long box to the left of this.

If the image uploaded recently I think you have an option to click edit description. That might be limited to about an hour after submitting but I am not sure.

Otherwise if you contact St3v3M (The owner of this comp)

I am sure between admin and himself they will be able to help you.

Is the description as to "how, what, where, etc." supposed to be incorporated in the title?

I agree with Gary. There are times during the year that I have plenty of opportunities to work on some new stuff but currently I am just too busy. My day job is not photography related and during the summer months my weekends are packed full of other events that keep me from taking photographs. I understand that not submitting archived photos is encouraged but sometimes submitting new ones is just not possible. This should in no way "sway" people's votes. A good archived image, one that meets the theme, should be given just as much consideration as others that have been taken within the specified time frame.

Yes but just an insight as to why you chose the image and what you had to go through to capture it. Sometimes it was easy I saw the makings of a beutiful picture so shot it. Sometimes I saw the makings of.. but the lighting was wrong so I came back every day until it was perfect.

I think people with archive entries have an advantage over people that do not. It is easier to look at the theme and then look into your archives to find an image to match the theme. Chances are your image will be pretty good else why have you stored it in your archives. Also somebody that has been shooting for 30 years will have more archives than somebody just starting out.

By submitting an archive pic you are not challenging your mind or technique. You are not looking at a problem then working on a solution.

They are not banned totally but the idea of the "Challenge" surely is to challenge ourselves.
