Thanks Gene, I like what you said about editing a jpeg is least favorable, that would make more reasons to shoot raw.
But I don't understand how to open a jpeg as raw in PS. what is the advantage?
If jpeg file is the only option, is there any reason to use PS:Filter-Camera Raw that PS' normal operations can't do.
For instance, PS:CR's Level function differs from the PS:Adjustment-Level?
Of course the latter is in a layer of which the opacity can be adjusted; or use the former for habitual or convenience sake.
Thanks Gene, I like what you said about editing a ... (show quote)

Absolutely. ACR filter has dehaze and clarity, for instance, which are not available otherwise. But the coup de grace is the adjustment brush, which defines an area where real-time, reversible previews of multiple adjustments can be implimented and tweaked, but which are not applied until you commit to them, and can be continuously modified before that. This is SO much better and more capable than typical sponge, dodge and burn tools...Just for starters...

So do PS and PSE; just a different interface, but actually the same over all 3 programs.

LR and ACR are different applications that use the same processing engine. But some of the controls in ACR differ from those in Lightroom.

The difference is only in the interface, the controls are equivalent in functionality.

Its still ACR and not LR, two different programs, and does not have much to do with levels or curves adjustments!

Not two different programs when it comes to editing images. And it has just as much to do with editing photos as levels and curves do in that both are tools to do so.

Its just like ACR and PS, ACR is part of PS, but they are 2 totally different/separate programs, just like ACR and LR!

I agree, PS is mainly to do the final enhancement prior to export as jpg.
Why PS:Filter:Camera Raw is there? Is it an Adobe freebie for the people who don't have access to LR?

ACR is in there, for people that don't have access to LR?? ACR was part of PS many, many years, before LR was created!

No. The adjustments you can make in ACR you cannot make in PS, and vice versa. You might be able to accomplish something similar, but not with the same controls. With ACR and Lightroom, every single image adjustment you can make in one you can also make in the other, because they're the same image editing program.

Have you tried PHotoshop CC? It has a Camera Raw filter which is identical to the ACR interface.

I think he is talking about the camera raw filter in PS CC - not ACR.

That is ACR. ACR can be accessed from Bridge or via the filter menu in PS.
