Carlsbad Caverns National Park is in New Mexico, that's a long way from the Black Hills in South Dakota!

You might want to put a doubler on the lens. I shot Rushmore with 400mm years ago and it turned out very well.

You might like to get a shot of Rushmore heads at night lit up. There is also a view through a tunnel on I believe needles highway. Have fun, take a lot of pictures.๐Ÿ‘

My wife and I are doing that trip with yellowstone the first 2 weeks in Sept, 2018. I will be the guy with the Nikon!! We are both very excited as this is a bucket lister for both of us.
If you have the time, a raft cruise on the Snake River through the Grand Tetons is very enjoyable.

There is a shot of Washington's profile that can be made from one of the side parking lots--most folks don't get that:

Sorry--don't know why it's rotated--it displays properly in Flickr.

Maybe you mean Jewel cave. Carlsbad is 982 mi south in New Mexico. A 14 hour drive each way.

I use a Sony A77 with a Sony 18-250 lens pretty much all the time. From my trips a possible word of advice...take the lower scenic road around Rushmore and forget Rushmore as it's a tourist trap. Much better was Crazy Horse with it's museum and native American exhibits and sales. Log adequate time to see each stop. Devil's Tower would seem like a fairly quick drive=around but we ended up both times we've been there spending several hours watching climbers, wildlife, etc.

You must mean Wind Cave NP or Jewel Cave NP. Carlsbad is no where near the area.

Needles highway, Custer National Park, deadwood, Leadville and more are must see spots while you are there. Also, careful with he bison. They are wild animals and can do serious damage Very quickly.

Custer State Park and Lead, not Leadville. Right about the bison. Be very wary and the burros are back in the park after being treated for injuries from the fire. Several of them died. They will come and beg treats from your car window.

Sent this once, but it didn't show up. Wind Cave NP and Jewel Cave NP are in the area. Carlsbad is nowhere near.
