Question on an upgrade.
I have a rebel xti. It is only 10mps but takes nice shots. I have been looking at the rebel t3i it has 18mps and shoots video. But im low on cash. have cancer and on disabilty and dont get much per month. what i was woundering does my xti still hold any value, And is the rebel t3i a good starter camera for a newb like me..

As far as prices I would check to see what they are going for on ebay. Or you could check into what you might get from B&H, KEH, etc. since they buy used items. You could also purchase a camera from one of those places. You might be able to get a refurb at a pretty decect price. Aside from the T3i having video is there any other reason you would want to upgrade? I man is there something that the camera can't do that you want it to? We have had this conversation many times on here that it's not really the megapixels that count when it comes to shooting. I mean yeah it's nice to have more, but you can get a good 24x36" print with 10 megapixels.
It was for the most part the video. and the fact that I could use the lenses that i have.
Thanks for the reply.

What does the t3i do that your camera doesn't do that you feel you NEED. The xti is a good camera and is capable of taking stunning pictures. Compare the two at a couple of sites like: 'snapsort' and 'dpreview.' Dpreview has a section where you can compare the camera specifications side by side. You find it under 'CAMERA' and then look down the long list to about the third of fourth one that says 'side by side comparison'
Unless you want something that the t3i does that your doesn't do, I would consider upgrading glass instead. That makes a really difference.
Like i said before i like the hd video and the xti does not shoot video..The t3i seems to have more features. but itlooks like my xti isnt worth selling. its value is only about $150 it seems. so i may just have to keep what i have and try and save up some more cash lol. thanks all for the help.
I'd avoid ebay for a camera. Too much risk vs reward.
Consider a factory refurbished model.
Places like Adorama often buy lots of refurbished (like new) and package them with other goodies for far less than new.
The Canon 3ti is a great camera and lots of fun to use.
Go for it! Life is too short - Carpe Diem!
thanks for the reply. yep I am gona try and save up since my xti is worth more for me to keep than sell. and my lenes will fit not that i have anything great but its a start.

I got a Nikon refurb and it came in a gray Nikon box, packed just like a new camera with all the goodies wrapped in plastic. It was like a new camera, except for the color of the box. If it's available, refurbished is the way to go. My D5100 had about 1,500 shutter actuations on it.
nice i'll will look into it. i'm not against used or referb. and it will help with my budget.

Take a look at this site:
http://www.georgeury.com/The used equipment that George sells looks like new. He has T3 Kit in mint condition if your budget can handle the price.

The DPreview charts are wonderfull. If you currently have only one camera body, you should buy a second before investing more in lenses. I did a quick look, and it appears that there are many features in the T3i, not avail in your current model. An articulated LCD is one of the biggies. Here's the link:

Yes that and the video and live shoot alone make me want it lol. the xti does'nt have video or live shoot so you have to look threw the view finder. and i cant hook up to my computer and get live view either. it says my camera is not suported. nice link thanks.
I can understand your problem. Not having video, but a perfectly good DSLR with lenses. If all you need is video, and are on a tight budget, take a look at video cameras. I bought a little Sanyo a few years ago, just to take video on my boat. The cost of the camera was only $129.00. It easy to learn how to use it, even has a telephoto lens built in. I've taken some great video of people reeling in fish. Canon Viexa, is a good camera, cost a bit more, some units have threaded lenses to attach filters, and even a extra telephoto lens. All the little camcorders are very light weight, and fit in the palm of your hand.
i have the canon rebel xti dslr and the canon eos rebel ti film camera with these lenes that i can use on either. quantaray 70-300 1:4-5:6 ld tele-macro 1:2,,,canon 35-80mm,,efs18-55 kit lens. its not much but i think i have a good start and this is all a new hoby for me. my other is a money pit too lol saltwarter reef keeping.. soon as i learn to take a goodpic i'll post one of my reef tank.
