I am a complete novice but do enjoy taking nice pictures. I have had this camera for about 5 years. We travel mostly to National Parks and I take a lot of landscape photos. My question is how to avoid the haze that I frequently get when shooting mountain scenes. Is there any remedy with a camera like this or is it time for me to move up to something different? We are heading to Alaska later this summer and now wonder if I have time to learn a new camera before then. Anyone's thoughts will be appreciated.

Improvise a lens hood.

Welcome to our forum. Be happy with your current Coolpix P520 for your trip. Why, because it is just a tool and you know how to use it. Have fun. Consider calling B&H and ordering a lens hood to avoid glare and a UV filter.

You can get a complete lens hood and filter kit for the P520 on EBay for around $35.

Welcome to UHH Sebaldwin, glad you joined us. Lens hood may help but for haze you probably have to remove in a post processing program like Lightroom or Photoshop.
Have fun, learn and enjoy the forum.

I don't think you can use a lens hood on a bridge camera. Send us a pic to see what you are talking about, you could be just encountering haze or a foggy morning.

Why do you think that?!
If one couldn't use a lens hood on bridge cameras then no one would make or sell them, but they do. I have a hood on three of my bridge cameras.
As long as there are threads to mount a hood, you can use one. Just make sure you use the right size.

I agree that haze can be most effectively dealt with in post processing. Lightroom has a great de-hazing feature.

Lens hoods are used primarily for dslr's. I don't use a bridge camera but they are fixed lens cameras. I maybe wrong but I didn't think you can attach a hood on a fixed lens camera.

Well I do have the threads on my lense so will look into a lens hood and into Lightroom. Thank you all for the input. I am excited to see improvement and to learn even more from this forum.
