I was just offered a freelance position to take photos at a large hotel chain and banquet center for their marketing department. No idea how much to charge. Anyone have experience in this?

Would it be your only job or just occasionally. How much do you need for living.

I would charge a minimum of $250 for 4 hour minimum. Price should go up after 4 hours. The number of pictures you give them would go up depending on if you have to process them and print them. But a minimum of $250 for your time just to shoot and more for delivery of the final product.

Find out what the job details are then run a spread sheet on the costs of producing what is wanted y the company then add in at least $30 to $50 an hour per the amount of time it takes you to complete each job. A day rate these days is at least $250 to $500 a day and that depends on how well qualified you are in the field of photography and the amount of gear you have available to do what is wanted of you.
Quite frankly the hotel is looking for the cheapest camera operator they can get. These days that means they can use someone who knows nothing about a camera and hand them a point and shoot. I see it done all the time when I look at the brochures from places like that. Since I am a pro I can spot the amateur work easily. I also see a lot of new digital wedding work these days has no talent involved. The amateurs usually shoot 500 to 600 shots to get 10 to 15 good ones. What a waste of time and effort. Film did one thing really good and that was to teach us pro's to get the job done without many mistakes and stopped us from over shooting the job, which cost a lot of money and time. Just because you can take 500 shots to produce 10 to 20 goods shots doe not make you a pro.
Like originally said spread sheet it all out and really see what it costs to produce the required work. Don't just ballpark your figures and hope you became an instant pro because you can always shoot a lot of images to get one or two they like. Your time cost money too.

Time and materials. I wouldn't touch it for under 600 per half day. Similar for post processing, presenting proofs, etc.

Somethimes I price by the project, others by the hour.
Not sure what yours entails, but my hourly rate is $125.
$250~$500 for a day is what amateurs charge.

Before anyone could answer your question you must tell us exactly what you will be doing. Working for a marketing department could mean lots of questionable situations. Working for a banquet center could make you the chief shooter for kiddie parties. What will you really be doing? Weddings sometimes utilize hotel banquet centers. Get more details or run.

It sounds like the OP has never done this before. While we all have to start somewhere, should this factor in to the amount of money asked for? Just askin'.

Don't know if you plan on doing more of this type of work, but regardless of what you might change, if they like your work its worth something to have a good reference for future work.....so money may not be your main concern.

Are you new to this line of work?? I would think whatever your prior pricing structure is, use that as a starting point. Consider travel expenses if that becomes a part of the job description.
