Terrific set. I really like #4 with the overlapping talons. Gary

Thanks Gary. Somewhere in my files I have a collection of extreme close up shots of great big sharp pointy raptor feet. Might make a good post. I appreciate your visit.

Beautiful bird and excellent captures, Phil!! Love the focus on the eyes!!

Thanks Angela, a good case can be made for strong mid-day light when it comes to detail and catch lights. I very much appreciate your visit and comments.

Thanks jederick. That kind of ruckus is could be about food but it is usually about trying to get lucky!

I think that is a great idea!! I love seeing the talons and mention it quite often. My brother calls them meat hooks. Gary

They are exactly "meat hooks", only with amazing dexterity and strength. A Bald Eagle can kill an adult goose with its powerful back talon. Watching them negotiate a perches on a landing or using those very sharp things to groom always impresses me. I have held several large raptors on a glove and feeling the subtlety and strength of their grip as they adjust for balance is a singular and very direct connection to these magnificent creatures. Thanks for your interest Gary.

Thanks Fred. I just looked in on your very nice lion shot from Ngorongoro Crater. I was there in 1966, splendid place!
I appreciate your comment.

These are two different birds. The first three are of a bird photographed in 2014. The second group is a bird I photographed this past Fall. Both were taken in the same location. Red-shouldered hawks are almost as common as Red-tailed hawks in the northern Sacramento Valley.

Excellent set Phil.

You knocked it out of the park with this set Phil. The sharpens and detail are stunning. Fine work.
