I have a D7100 also with several zooms
My primes, all Nikon, are 35mm 1.8, 50 mm 1.8, and 40mm macro, I think is 2.8.
I am saving up for a wide angle prime.
I can carry all in my vest and focus by walking more.
These three use 52mm filters so save money on nsd and polarizing.
I still do nature landscapes but have added city and architecture, inside and outside.

Doing interior shots is a good reason for getting a "wide" prime, But your current set sounds like a nice "walking around" kit!

Simply put, you should buy the 35mm DX.

Yup! Inexpensive, very sharp, very light.

The wide I am thinking will complement all of them

I just now thought,. When I bought my first "wide" prime ( a 28mm F2.8 Asahi Pentax) it was not for interiors, but for shooting vintage cars (1930s Cadillacs, Packards,Buicks and the like.) at car shows in the 70s and 80s Also good for shooting fire apparatus! LOL!

Ah good comment.
Now vintage cars are anything older than your grand kids!

"Scariest" is that 1970s cars are NOW as old as 1930s cars were THEN!

Yeah. When I read the question, I thought of the Nikkor 200 f/2.

The latest is hardly a “light weight”: https://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/734998-USA/Nikon_2188_AF_S_NIKKOR_200mm_f_2_0.html

That is one amazing lens. Along with the FL lenses, and the 105 F1.4 - but without knowing what he shoots it's hard to make a recommendation. He can buy my 600mmF4 AF-S II if he wants a great lens without needing a mortgage. . .

Yeah, I remember seeing one in pristine condition for $3500. The new price was $5000 at that time. I drooled all the way home—but saved my marriage.
