The second shot is kind of a spoiler but your capture of the sunrise is awesome! Very well done.

You know, the funny thing is to see all the people with their phones stretched as far as their arm will reach hoping to get the same shot. The phone cameras are nice, but cannot come close to capturing that dynamic range. Thank you for the kind words of encouragement.

A+ When we visited Mesa Arch, the wind was blowing so hard I did not get out my camera.

I know exactly what you mean. When I was in Bryce I encountered the same thing and thought I was going to be lifted over the rail at Rainbow Point. I have been in hurricanes with less wind velocity. Thanks for stopping by and leaving your kind comment Barn Owl.

My friend Frank Lee Ruggles tells the story of the photo that graces the cover of his book, "Chasing Light." He says he arrived a good hour before sunrise when no one was there, picked the "perfect spot" and settled in. The sun rose, and he took his shots. Upon wrapping up and putting away his gear, he looked behind him and saw a swell of photographers, all taking the same shot.

(Note: I am not hawking Ruggles' book, but it's a terrific coffee table book of superb photography!)

I have met Frank and have his wonderful book. When I mentioned to him I was taking this trip he told me at Bryce Canyon to go to sunset point for sunrise and sunrise point for sunset to avoid the crowds. I managed to get to sunrise for the sunrise a couple of mornings I was there. Here is one I took there with my phone. He also mentioned to go into Queen's Garden for the night sky shots I wanted. I was lucky enough to be there during the new moon and I will post some of those later.

Appreciate you stopping by and especially mentioning Frank. He was a great Eminent Photographer for the NPS and is a really great guy.

These are beautiful, Randave! After seeing image #2,
I'm amazed you got such a magnificent shot for #1!

Thank you Rolk. Everyone was very excited when the sun came up but were quite polite as well. Can't say that has been my experience everywhere, but at the arch it was quite civilized.

Excellent image. Hope all your "buddies" got the same shot.

Thank you kpmac. Can't tell you how many times I had a phone shoved over my shoulder during this session. Know the guy on tripod next to me got some really nice ones though.

I'm glad you included the hoards of photographers shot to show reality! The first shot is the "classic" sunrise shot and you did it well! Bravo!

I was there last Oct with a small group. We arrived well over an hour before sunrise and were the only ones there for a bit. Then it was like your second shot :)

Great photo
