Help me identify this Snake.

Wow, I live in the Southwest and instantly recognized a water moccasin, though we don't have them here. How close were you? Do be careful. If it had opened its mouth you'd have seen the white inside--thus the other name, cottonmouth. But cool...

Thanks. I was actually pretty close. And, if it had of opened its mouth, I think I would have jumped sky high!

approx , 4 ft. longthis was a ratllesnake in utah. pitch black outside
