Sorry about the IQ of the photos. I assumed at first that it was a Water Snake, but now I am wondering. It was about 4 feet long and heavy bodied. I am hoping that I wasn't stupid enough to get within striking distance of a Water Moccasin!!

Great shots of a nasty snake, use the long lens next time, don't want anything bad to happen to you

Yeah , what he said! Jen :-)

They are great, but I agree, you were far too close unless that was a 100X400 lens at the very least!

That's a wive's tale that can sure get you in trouble. The best rule of thumb is if you can't possitively identify it...consider it dangerous. Molly was really lucky in this case as several of the photos show the snake to be in an agitated defensive mode.

If you hear loud screams coming out of the Glades, that will be me calling for your help!

But you got the pics right?! :-P :-D

Yea, but next time I will use a telephoto lens!

You mean this WASN'T done with a L-O-N-G telephoto lens???

Are we going to have to start calling you GutsyMolly or perhaps OnceBittenMolly?

Start being careful!

But you DID get the photos---good going!
How far is it to the hospital???

Larry

Thanks Larry. This was on the Jet Port access road so the nearest hospital was about 80 miles in either direction! I REALLY did think it was a Water Snake because the Moccasins I usually see have a much darker line behind the eye. But upon checking, the Water Snake has no line!

I had a 300 on one camera, but I had to grab the one with a 17-85 in order to get the shots.

Yes it did seem to get agitated and once it coiled is when I backed away.
