This guy kept approaching a bison, even though warned by snorting and an upright tail. We were a safe distance off and not prepared to take photos. Poor quality, but you get the idea.

Thank goodness for a patch of trees.

Google the term "touron" if you're not sure what it is.

Good sequence. I spoke to a park ranger up there and he told me that the most frequent injuries by animals in the park were by bison. Seems they are near sighted and don't know you are there until you get within their discomfort zone so they attack.

Failure to engage brain before capturing the shot. A picture is worth a thousand words. Your series says it all.

One ranger told us of a fool who put his daughter on top of a bison to take a photo. Nice sequence!

Bison - 1, Touron - 0. Exactly the way it oughta be. Got a tale or two (but alas, no pix) about tourorists and Big Horn Sheep, sort of like yours, only juicier.

Photos don't always gotta be art. Sometimes they just gotta be taken. And I'm glad you did!

Yeah, there were a few there in the trees who thought it was quite funny.

I'll try to do a better job next time! Unfortunately this is not all that uncommon. Tough to watch unfolding. It was so obvious the animal was getting riled up.

Thank you for commenting. I've got a couple Big Horn tales as well! One spring my wife and I got forced to retreat from a trail when several new mothers converged to prevent us from entering an area that apparently had some newborn. Not good!

Thank you! The touron must have caught some great close-ups, but I prefer the longer lenses!

Yes, they are nearsighted and possess excellent smell and hearing. This one was huffing and puffing, snorting and raising his tail well before the charge. I'll bet he could smell something as the incident progressed.

If there velociraptors in the park there would be idiots trying to let them.
