I shoot a few times a week, both pistol and rifle. I started shooting HPR competitively at the age of 12 at CMP and NRA sponsored events and retired from it a few years ago. I trained for and shot in USPSA competitions for a few years. I was also a NRA firearms instructor in Pistol, Rifle, and Shotgun for a number of years. I've never really been an avid h****r, so most all of my shooting has been competitive and recreational. I probably shoot close to 10k rounds a year, mostly in 22, 9mm, 45, 223, & 308.

I’m not a gun owner and I’m curious about gun ownership. Many owners are said to own multiple weapons. So I would like to know how often do you shoot and in what context. I know there are many h****rs so I wonder how often you hunt. Target shooting, competitions?

I have NO hidden agenda so please let’s not turn this into another Attic “feces fling”; please let’s leave judgments out of this one thread.

I’ve only shot once this year...., but I got that republican smack dab between the eyes I did!!!

All I would do is waste ammo.

When I was in the service, I got to shoot a BAR. I couldn't keep it on target. It always went up and right no matter what I did.

Later in life, I had a neighbor who carried a BAR on Iwo. Once I asked him how he kept it from going up and right. He said that he turned it 45 degrees to the right and it just fired along the horizon.

I really felt stupid!

My family all enjoyed shooting bottles in the strip mines with 22's. Brought up in an NRA family. My mom boasted that she got 28 squirrels from their back deck withought a miss. She was in her 60's when she did that. I shot groundhogs and deer with hunting rifle when I was living on a farm a few years ago. Now I only have a high power (for a pellet gun) pellet gun and mostly shoot squirrels in the back yard from my desk here in the office. All my kids have side arms.

I have a gun range in the back of the ranch. I try to get out there at least once a week. Shooting is like golf. The more you practice, the better you get.

A week ago I was riding the fence line and saw three coyotes after a young calf. I quickly got two and one got away. I had to fire 5 rounds.

I guess I need more rapid fire practice from about 250 yards.

I don't hunt for food or sport. I really don't like to k**l animals but I don't like animals k*****g my animals.

Do you see them in multiples often? I've only ever seen loners.

Heading out in an hour to the Owyhees to look for coyotes. The ranchers let us hunt their private and leased land as well as there is a lot of B*M, Forest Service and State land to cruise on. OBTW, I use an AR15.

I could care less what you use for a weapon, but I find your need to post "AR15" rather interesting.

That might work with any vermin! Hmm

With domestic dogs it can help educate owners. I've had more trouble with packed up domestic dogs than anything.

I'm not sure you get any bragging rights for that. Most of then are pretty old.

Ok, lets keep this on the up and so far have kept it clear. Someone wrote using a AR-15, ok the around is 223 cal. which is a very good round for shooting in very flat land. Flat land to me is any area where you have a lest 200 yards of open land 360o around you. I live in Northern New York, 100 yards is a big deal. See a person carrying a AR 15 into the woods in this part of the USA. Is very odd.

I live in WNY and shoot AR's all the time here, and in many calibers in addition to 223. I know tons of people who shoot AR's regularly all over NYS on their property and other places where it's allowed, it's far from odd.

I see coyotes usually in groups of 2 to 4. At sundown is sounds like a pack of 40 but I'm sure it is not. Sometimes I just see a loner.

Hogs will come into the yard alone but usually travel in groups of 2 and 9 babies. They can really tear up pasture land.

Hi,

I enjoy target shooting often like so many who enjoy golfing, bowling, etc.

I try to go to the range a couple of times a month.

Each trip to the range last from 2 to 3 hours or so. Some range target shooting or just shooting the breeze with friends I have made.

I am an old man age 77, thus retired, and was taught at age 10 on the ole dirt tenant farm how to shoot, respect, safety of an innate tool called a firearm.

As a Youth a firearm was a very important tool to hunt help feed the family, harvest hogs, cattle for processing aka family food.

As an 18 year old I lugged one around in the Military, and used per Command Orders in Service to Our Nation.

As a Young Man for a few Years I was a Certified State of Florida Police Officer serving as a part time Reserve Officer while working full time at my Professional Career with an Investor owned Electrical Utility. (In Miami, Florida where I lived at the time the Public Safety had an excellent Reserve Officer Program where one perfomed 20 hours of Police Work per month two 8 hour shifts, and a 4 hour in service training)

I know You did not ask for a Personal History just amount of time one may go shoot any firearms they own.

I will be interested in the replies you receive regarding how often one enjoys their firearms.
