It isn't hard to understand what he is getting at. Our eyes don't see out of focus backgrounds, so photographs with out of focus backgrounds are not "real and natural".

The OP said color is natural and b/w is not. Even if that is true, who said all photographs have to look natural.

There are times of the day, before sunrise and after sunset, where most humans cannot distinguish color. The eye adjust for the low light level yet we see very naturally in b/w.

Some images look better to many people, though maybe not all, in b/w. Probably the reason that many/most cameras have the option to shoot mono. The same holds true for processing software.

For those who can't enjoy a good b/w image, just ignore them.

One other thing comes to mind. I have a number of AA's books (all gifts) including "Ansel Adams in Color". If he had only shot in color I doubt anyone today would recognize his name.

The OP said color is natural and b/w is not. Even ... (show quote)

At one point he indicated real and natural but photography is not real or natural and we've come to accept the aberrations we see. Buildings on the edge of the frame really don't lean in towards each other. The human eye perceives many more stops of light than a camera, Our eyes/brain don't compress telephoto images or or distort facial features taken too close to the subject, and don't add noise or change the depth of field or focus softer at the edges of the frame. And we don't view life with flat sides and 90 degree corners. Our eyes do not work the same way a camera does and what we see in reality is very different then what we see in photos. He is deluding himself if he believes any of this is real or natural. But then that's what photography is about. Its a delusion to allow to us to believe we've captured on a flat image what we see in real life. In that regard B&W may be more honest because it does not pretend to mimic what we see with our eyes.

Exactly. He is talking nonsense. People have a tendency to post comments without any thought. He is a prime example of this fact.

My peripheral vision is never quite in focus - I thought everyone else's was OOF too. Back to that damn optometrist for me!!

Interesting that you would mention booze. I had one sip of beer in my entire life.

If you don’t understand it, it would make sense, since you also don’t get why some people like B&W.

Real life IS deeeeeeep depth of field. If you take a bird picture and the background is blurred, it is not real life. So if you like natural pictures, wouldn’t it make sense to use the smallest aperture at all times? After all, that is what you see.

You really need to read what you are seeing in these posts. He is explaining to you the same thing I’m saying. I actually did think about what I was writing in my reply. You may want to try the same thing.

The effects of you beer sip had a lasting effect. No wonder you didn't have another sip. Where do you get off thinking that the background isn't blurred when you are focused on a subject? There is no way both are in focus! Open you eyes. You have no idea what you are talking about.

Are you now saying that you see blur with your eyes?

You are making less and less sense.

How about you work on your own skills, so you can appreciate your own B&W photos and respect that other people may like something different. How about that for a start?
