I'm not saying don't use, it, but keep people as close to the middle as possible anyway. If you have them from one side of the frame to the other, be prepared for the people on the sides to get pretty angry with you for making them look so "wide"
But as an advantage, with a wider (10mm) field of view, you can frame your group loosely, meaning that the people on the ends are sufficiently away from the edge leaving a margin where the natural wide angle distortion lives, and is easily cropped without making those end folks look like Popeye's arms or the Michelin Man.
In general, a few mm on a wide angle lens makes a very much larger difference that it does on a longer lens.
Those field of view image examples are very helpful.
