When I did my own b/w printing, I did satin and matte for personal use and glossy for production. Now that I am doing digital and not printing myself, I am only finding glossy available on a regular basis. I checked a local camera shop what type of printing they had available and got a confusing answer that did not tell me anything. I have not checked what the other camera shop offers.

What paper type do you use and why?

Do you have a preference for show/contests? For display at home?

What results have people of had with canvas? Looks like a good idea for the right picture.

I use 'Ultra Premium Photo Paper Luster' from Epson because I like the look.

I print mostly on canvas , for myself and a hand full of customers , most are 36 x 24 some larger up 44 inches wide, it comes on rolls I also can print on sheet stock ...if your printing for sales most customers prefer canvas biggest comment is they look like paintings especially HDRI photos . 13 x 19 sell well also especially birds , Semi-gloss mostly . I do Print on Kodak Induro a wonderful metallic that seems to shimmer because of the coating and high gloss...seems to flip flop mainly I use it on water and sunsets . Flowers come to life on metallic , just experiment.....

We like RedRivercatalog.com also. We use their ultra pro satin 4.0 ....it captures the true depth of colors. We also use their metallic photo paper and polar pearl metallic for certain prints. They have numerous papers and hopefully you will find what you need.

That matches the old Kodak ‘E’ Lustre Luxe surface pretty well.

I use Epson Exhibition Fiber Paper for 8½x11, Hannamule Bamboo for 13x19 for a softer look, and Canon Pro Luster for large format.

I knew it reminded me of something 'from a past life'. Thanks.

We used both in the lab I worked for. We had to “dumb down” the Epson profile with our mini-lab profile so the prints would match.

For seriously good black and white, it's hard to beat a baryta paper.

I use whatever I consider appropriate for a certain picture. I always have several different papers at hand. If I think a certain image needs a kind of paper that I do not have, I order that kind!

If I have a photo with a lot of blacks or dark colors, I print on Matte, if it has more brighter colors , I print on satin or luster. I never print on glossy, but I do have some customers that want metallic paper.

For thin transparent colors... love Redriver pearl metallic.... like painting a wall the previous.. underlay... affects the final results... true the viewing angle makes the metallic better.. but I know it is there... knowing counts...

I love mat, but often print gloss, especially if using my favorite frames that have glass... a few years ago i would never have done the gloss with glass... humm... I will need to ponder the change in me... or is it that my photos [camera and post] are better and do not need mat to cover problems...

I don't print very often, but when I do, I use paper made by the maker of the printer. I use gloss or matte, depending on the situation. I recently did a batch for a local playhouse, and I was surprised at the variation in color I got using three different printers.
