I inherited an old shoe shine kit a few years ago. I thought it might make a nice still life. Any thoughts? FYC

A lot to enjoy here, Walt. I very much like that you squeezed a lot of items into the frame and have balanced left and right with close cropping. The number of items says to me, what a time-consuming job ahead! It also implies this is no simple task; it requires expertise. I'm enjoying the textures and shapes of the tools, as well as the well worn shoes.
I would like to see the Kiwi can in focus because it's so close on the plane of in-focus items on each side of it. Would you talk about your decision there, please?
A nostalgic and uncommon still life; well done in my opinion!

I zeroed in on the near shoe to emphasize the texture of it and the fact that the shoes needing a shine. These shoes have been shined by me too many times to count and are my favorite everyday shoes. I take a lot of heat from my better half over them as they have been worn out to the point there is a hole in the bottom of one of them but I just can’t give them up. I tend to do that with shoes if I find a comfortable pair and this isn’t the first time I’ve worn a pair way too long.
I came up with this idea a couple of weeks ago when I was fooling around with my new camera trying to get used to the new buttons while sitting in my recliner. I kept taking test photos of my shoes and thinking how much I liked the texture of the shoes. LOL

Nice job, Walt. I think I see why you focused on the shoes--everything else in the photo is necessary, yet secondary to the shoes.

It does, and it is out of the ordinary. When I saw the title, I was sure that a street shot would be in the offing. You took me by surprise. Very imaginative.

Thank you. I can see where some (like Linda) might want to see the Kiwi tin in sharper focus but yeah, it’s kind of secondary as you say.

That’s the thing about titles isn’t it? Just a title alone can sometimes provide a little misdirection.
Walt
Indeed it does make a nice still life.
Good job Walt. Nostalgic.

The shoes are too young.
Perhaps a shoe-shine box for a backdrop?
A good shot with a product (shoes) presentation.
It's certainly an interesting image, and one that a lot of us remember all too well. I love the comfortable shoes that are getting yet another polish. It's a wonderful thought.
If it were mine, I would probably have gone for a little more depth of field to get a bit more in focus. But I do understand your wanting to make the shoes the primary subject with other items being secondary.

Thank you to everyone for the feedback. Here's another version that presents the foreground a bit more in focus. Does this one work better?
