The Panasonic ZS100 is one fantastic camera. I have compared its image quality with several DSLR cameras and it compares very well. But beware, it is NOT a camera for beginners, it takes time to understand and be able to use all its features.

I need a rugged (dust proof) point and shoot camera. Any suggestions?

I was about to pose a similar question. After a lot of reading and deciding what features were important to me, I narrowed it down to the Fujifilm FinePix XP130 and the Olympus TG-5. Over the weekend I looked at the specs for each one more time and have decided on the XP130 for two reasons: price/specs vs. the TG-5 and I have an old--approximately 7-8 years old--Fujifilm shockproof waterproof camera that's still working and giving good snapshot results. Hope this helps.

It is a fantastic camera, but it is not "rugged". My wife has one and usually takes better pictures than I do. For beginners ( and the seasoned), you can take it out of the box, set it up with the date/time put it on "iA" (for intelligent automatic) and never worry about any of the other features. I've seen it work well that way many times!

The assumption when you say "rugged" is that it is waterproof and dropproof. The Olympus TG-5, Pentax, and other tough cameras will meet that requirement.

But if you mean by "rugged" just weatherproof (rain and snow only, not for underwater) and dustproof, but not dropproof, then you might want to consider the Olympus E-M5 mrII or E-M1 mrII and the Panasonic GH4 or GH5 along with any of the sealed lenses from either brand or independent lense manufacturer (100+ choices).

Maybe you should read the OPs post... it st6ates Point and Shoot... not DSLR.

I have the Olympus TG 870, it was cheaper (than the TG 5) and has a selfie screen (which I hate to admit but I like) - it has been great for the beach. And is has been severely abused at many water parks and still works like a champ. I also have an old Canon D30, and it still takes fantastic photos after many years of beach/water park/ pool party abuse. I’m very hard on my cameras - these two have held up great.

hookedupin2005, my first paragraph addresses the point and shoot. But does the OP's "rugged" just mean weatherproof or does it mean waterproof and dropproof? Does the OP think that the only cameras that are weatherproof and dustproof are point and shoot cameras? If the OP's only true requirements are weatherproof and dustproof, don't you think he might want to think about other options that are small cameras that might meet his requirements better that a point and shoot? I know that I would even if I eventually bought the point and shoot. I would have made an informed decision. I think UHH should offer the OP a chance to make a well informed decision since he did not define exactly what he meant by "rugged".
