Do you need a camera that you just point and shoot of any size and weight or you want a camera that is small and light yet you can do all the settings you want? Sometimes people who said Point & Shoot they really meant compact camera.
The best camera for pointing and shooting if you don't mind the cost, size and weight is any of the top of the line camera from Canon or Nikon which are DSLR or Sony, Olympus or Panasonic for Mirrorless. You can use them just to point and shoot and they will deliver images superior to any of the compact point and shoot.

I'm thinking along the lines of a Fujifilm FinePix XP130 Waterproof Digital Camera or Olympus TG-5 Waterproof Camera. I want to keep the price on the modest side.

Dustresistant/waterproof cameras - Fuji, Olympus, Panasonic - check them out at B&H, Adorama or on Amazon. Great image quality. Please don’t risk dunking, damaging or losing your bigger gear. Please.

I'm having a lot of fun with an Olympus TG-5 that was a surprise gift at Christmas.

I didn't know I wanted one. Now I think I might not be able to do without it!

For salt water, beach sand and dust the instructions say to wash it in running water, then dry it off. The only caution is to keep an eye on the rubber seal for the battery and connector doors. The lens part is fully sealed.

What questions do you have?

Check out the Olympus TG-5. It's waterproof, dust proof, crush proof, drop proof, you name it.

Is the Olympus TG-5 simple to operate?

There is a dial on the back that sets the modes. One is green and sets it to an advanced version of automatic. In a quick menu the flash can be set to automatic. Then, you turn it on, point it and press the shutter button. For video there is a separate and smaller button. So, set this way, it is extremely simple.

On the other hand, like all cameras, there are lots of settings that are completely optional. There is one toward the end of the menu system that will reset the whole thing to out of the box factory original.

My choice would be a Sony RX10 IV. I sold a Canon 7D Mark II in order to get this camera. Cost is $1,695 and in my opinion worth every cent. Ranges go from 28mm to 600mm, no need to carry a lot of lenses, you have everythiing there. Check out the reviews. Good luck!

I wrote this before I read the comment about price, sorry.

I second everything that previous posters have written about the Olympus TG-5.

I originally bought mine for extreme cold and/or inclement weather, but Olympus has built so many modern features into it that it has replaced my smaller point-and-shoot cameras as an all-year-rounder. It does have limitations, particularly when carelessly handheld with the tele zoom racked out, but if you're careful, it's a great camera.

Go for it.

Check out the Panasonic line of P&S Cameras, I had had one that took excellent photos, sold it and now a happy owner of my 1st DSLR, a Nikon D3300.
