Nice picture!! This one is of a snow owl shot in a wildlife park. I"ve never been to alaska. It shure looks beautiful.
I don't have any zoos or wildlife parks around; so even finding wildlife or birds is a chore..
I do like to go to Alaska every year just for the photography... (caveat: I am not a bird shooter so I don't have any long lenses by birder standards)
Larry were you hand holding your camera when you captured this? I would imagine you were but it makes me wonder how the eagle turned out so clear. I know it would have been one big blur if I had shot that picture but I can't imagine how you would get a shot like that with a tripod. I'm pretty new so I'm still trying to understand this...

Yes, the shot was hand-held as I was on a moving boat at the time. (we did, of course, slow down for photographs) I was using a Canon 300mm f4L IS, with a 1.4 converter.. If I had been using a lens without IS, the shot would have been much more difficult..

Thank you! That shot really captures the motion of the eagle. I've never seen one in the wild - it's always been my dream. You're so lucky you got to see that
:-D

Hello,
I got this image in Kodiak harbor while standing on the cruise ship looking back to Kodiak harbor.
That's a beauty....
I usually have to sneak up on mine... I never seem to be in the right place at the right time......

Wow - super shot - love the pan effect on the water !!
Why I bought a superzoom jewel birds!
Thank You. I first thought a seagull was approaching. When I looked through the 300mm lens I realized it was an Eagle, so I started to pan with the motion. That was the only shot I made, and was very lucky to get it.
Nice image of the birds, especially the Bokeh. I am realizing that if I can't fill the image with the lens, I should avoid taking the shot. I used to crop the image to achieve a look of closeness, but the quality is not what I am seeking.
I captured this image of a Bald Eagle at the Anchorage Zoo, there was just the bars in the way to obscure the view.

I'm sorry but what is IS?

IS is "Image Stabilization".. It's Canon's version. Nikon call theirs VR for "Vibration Reduction"..
It's a great breakthrough for long lenses
Oh, OK. Thanks for the explanation, Larry....
