From what I see, I can almost guarantee you that the "$200 lower price" at Jet Cameras will actually end up costing you more than simply buying from a long established and reputable dealer like Adorama, B&H, Amazon Direct, etc., etc.

If the known-reputable places who sell at higher prices are out of stock, what's the likelihood that the guy offering the item for $200 less actually has it in stock? (Just wondering out loud, as I've never heard of Jet, but HAVE dealt with KEH, Adorama and Roberts happily over the years, and just ordered an Olympus battery from B&H tonight.)

Again ... you can't make assumptions like that. I stumbled on to UHH one day and joined 2 days later. I didn't do a forensic analysis on all posts before joining for weeding out the PCI (Potential Curmudgeon Issues). Many times someone is so excited to be on forum that they just want to ask anything to to break the ice. Apparently you didn't pick up on that. That's OK

At the risk of repeating a previous statement, I have often noticed new Hoggers stating that they had been monitoring the site for, in some cases, quite a long time. That indicates to me that the newbie is likely aware of goings-on among members.

Welcome to UHH. You did yourself a favor by asking. There is no such thing as a great deal with Canon or Nikon. Most of the deals from reputable companies are very close and fair. B&H, Adorama, BestBuy, and a few others are recognized and authorized dealers. Choose wisely.

At the risk of repeating, there is no valid basis for your assumption.
I joined UHH 5 years ago and posted on the same day. Therefore I assume that newbies always post on their first day.
