I ruined my print head and need a new all-in-one printer. What's your favorite?

First, try removing all cartridges, dampen a Qtip and move over the print heads, wait a few minutes, replace the cartridges and run the print head cleaning program again. This has always worked for me - so far. Also check Precision Colors for refillable ink. I've been using this ink for over a year now; the printer often sits 2-4- days without printing anything and I've not had any problems. Suggestion above was prior to Precision Colors, which was suggested by a fellow UHHer.

I did this and now it prints black text in purple, an improvement to pink text, but the printing is blurred and a document from EXCEL printed gobbledegook...no discernible words!

Thanks for the tip, though!

I have been using Canon printers for many years and should never have used non OEM ink. This is the second printer I've had to replace because non OEM ink ruined the print head (I'm a slow learner). I researched how to clean the print head and followed all the instructions and now a printed page comes out in PINK type! The black ink tanks are full, although the colors are low, so that doesn't explain why it doesn't print text in black. I ordered one set of Canon ink for a last ditch effort to resurrect this $60 printer.

I already have a Canon Pro 10 dedicated to picture printing, although I may occasionally print a picture on the all in one.

That being said, I could be swayed to switch brands for my office work printer. It needs to scan, copy, & print and not put me in the poor house buying ink!! I've even considered a color laser printer. Replacement toner cartridges cost more than the printer, but that is true for ink jet printers too. The difference is the number of times they need to be changed for best results.

I've looked at so many options that my head is spinning and would really like to hear what you all like.

I usually stay away from all-in-one- printers, but my girlfriend wanted one, so I got her the Epson Artisan 810 for her birthday many years ago, and she loves it. It really does a good job and when printing photos, it does a decent job too!

Not to be disagreeing, but printer ink is NOT the most expensive liquid on the planet. I'm taking some eye medicine that figures to be $23,000.00 a gallon and that does not include whatever amount my insurance covers. Even if the insurance coverage is only 40% that means this medication is $32,200 per gallon. Printer ink ain't even close.

My mistake. Turns out that there are a lot of liquids that are more expensive than printer ink. I just found out that snake venom can be 39 million a gallon, depending on type of snake.

WOW! Help me learn something today. What is your source of information? My reason: I've got a friend that once got burned by not fact checking an item and now he calls me out every time I mention something he's not heard before. Thank you in advance.

Actually, that's scorpion venom.

EPSON WORKFORCE! The last forever, you can replace the used ink tank and use continuous ink supplies (CISS) in them.

I am a college instructor and print REAMS of handouts on my Epson Workforce 845. The only reason I am on my third one is that I just recently discovered that I can replace the used ink tank.

Although I've gotten bad results from third party ink, I've never ruined a print head. I would recommend reading lots of reviews and on;ine recommendations for printers before you buy one.

There have been several recommendations for the Canon Pixma 922. I have one and also recommend it. It has never caused me any problems. For an all in one printer, which the OP asked about, the photo quality is surprisingly good, not full professional quality but not too far off.

Awhile back I asked if anyone knew who actually manufactures printer inks and did not get a reply, so I will repeat the question. I doubt if the printer manufacturers make their own ink but probably outsource and relabel it. I would not be surprised if a lot of the brands, including oem, are made by the same company but don't know that for certain. Just curious.

Several issues being discussed.. ink and printers. If for text, get a low cost Brothers Laser printer and low cost laser carts. I used after market ink CIS[ contentious ink supply ... tanks] for 5 years and failure was not the ink... rather was the "end of life" waste ink sponge... had I known that was the part, I would not have trashed the printer would have washed and dried the sponge.

If one examines what goes into ink it is not difficult to make a good after market ink. One big myth is UV protection!! well I do not have a UV lamp in my living room and UV is mostly filtered out by glass > 75%** Also considering the price of UV blocking additive ... low cost and little needed to be effective. I researched it once for a myth UHH opine My Aunt Sally Said discussion.

I recently trashed my Epson 950, plugged ink....not the inks fault... rather months of not using the printer while rebuilding this half price condo i bought. My replacement is a Canon Pixama TS9020. A $200 8x10 printer now selling for $50 having been replaced by the 9120 one has gray ink cart the new a lighter blue. Both have large pigmented black for text. The carts are individual vs the one cart for all scam.

After market ink carts are incredible low cost perhaps $12 per set. Still on my OEM that came with the printer. Great printer... I have a Canon 100 that sold for $100 after rebate... 2 years not unpacked yet. Why? because I print 8x10 for my wall.

Rochester institute tested inks and in an article by PC magizine stated:
For the best inkjet experience--including crisp, colorful, long-lasting print output--ink from the printer's manufacturer tends to be a better bet than third-party ink. That said, if you're willing to compromise a bit on print quality and longevity, you can save considerable money over the life of your printer by using aftermarket inks from reputable third-party vendors. OK adjust you color print program sliders and prob you will never notice the micro pix picking difference. Yes, I know reading 7 page study is not as much fun as wet finger in air and asking your plumber her opinion.... Opine away the fun part of UHH is to confuse by one experience. I prefer scientific studies.

Check out the Epson ET, (ET2550 - ET4750). The lower numbers don't fax or auto print both side. Print using all colors at lest once a week, or you will have to clean the heads. Cleaning the heads are simple check Utube.

GrandmaG.....Since you already have a dedicated photo printer, I would suggest that you purchase a black ink only printer that also has scanner/copier capabilities. I purchased a Brother and it saves me a ton of money on ink by doing this. This will not work, however, if you need text that includes color. The one drawback of my particular copier is that it will only print one envelope at a time. It could be that other black ink printers, though, would print more. The reason I ended up choosing this particular model was the price per print. Note: My scanner will do pdf documents and the scanner and copier will also do 2 sided pages.
