From the rumors I've found, they are skipping the D6. Actually, it's more like scrapping the D6 step, as the improvements on the model to be released after the D6 came along quite well. FX sensor with 53MP color mode selectable modified CMOS-v. Apparently, a lot of copy/print houses were requesting a native CYMK RAW compatible output, as opposed to converting an RGB capture. It's also going to feature a voice actuated assistant, currently named Nikki. This assistant will be able to answer questions regarding settings, composition, point of focus, etc. The communication, which is satellite based, is intended to use the built in speaker, or can be used through iPhone earbuds and mic, for more private guidance. The camera also features a color analyzer which will detect the type of light and automatically set WB programmatically. The sensor is divided into segmented regions for WB. This will allow the regions of the scene to be individually balanced depending on the color temperature of the light source illuminating that portion of the scene which is projected onto a sensor segment.

Additionally, and this is still not clear, the camera will also suggest the appropriate lens to use based on its onboard subject analysis software. The rumor also has it that the camera will be priced in the range of USD $8,000-$8500. Of course, they are also co-releasing a compliment of lenses specifically designed for the new sensor. Due to its dual usage now as photographic and graphic, lenses will have specific coatings for the intended end use of the camera. The anticipated date of release is supposed to be later this year, in time for Christmas.

And it will be called the D7-UHH, or just THE RONG!

As mentioned, a D6 is at LEAST 2 years away, but the way Nikon is going lately, I'd be surprised if it happened that soon. I think it's probably more like 3 years off. A D5s is far more likely and that's actually overdue with no concrete rumors about a release date. They might not even do an "s" version this time.

In any case, there's nothing out there at the moment that says a D5 is about to be replaced. Of course, if your luck is like mine, once you buy one then the rumor will surface :)

Actually, there is a mixing board incorporated in the menus. The only complaint they've had with the prototype is that the back screen is a bit small and the adjustments are not as fine as the marketing dept. would like.

AH!

Now I know you're making all this up; Nikon does not have a marketing department.

Has anyone heard any rumors that Nikon may be releasing the next Pro DSLR Body?
I am about to purchase a D5 and I don't want to see a D6 on the market in 3 months.

Even if a D6 would come out, the D5 will still take good pictures.
There will always be something on the horizon, if you are always waiting for the next thing you will always be waiting.

Wow. and yesterday I took my first video with my D810. Now I'll have to relearn all over again. All those extra features are really important to know.

Hey, Jackle, Mack hit the nail on the head, at least in the experience of this 80+ old photo hobbyist! Go ahead and get your camera and never look back!! There will always be something on the horizon to wait for next - just in case!

Get and enjoy your new camera in good health!

Simply put and very sound advice. I work in IT, so I know there's always a new shiny toy around the corner.
I am researching the options of refurbished, used and new tonight. Should be shooting by early next week!!!
Thanks to all the Hoggers for your feedback.

I heard that Nikon will be releasing a full frame and cropped sensor mirrorless camera. A new "Z" lens mount has already been developed for the new mirrorless cameras. Nikon has patents for two lenses for the mirrorless system. One is a 52mm f/0.9 and the other is a 36mm f/1.2. I'd like to know when those will hit the market.

So where do you set the focus on these airborne bacon providers?

On the snout of the lead porker, shutter speed at 1/40th and pan the herd using continuous shooting mode.
