How does the strap shot compare to Peak Design, Spyder etc. I’m thinking of getting one of these for my backpack.
I have both the strap shot and the Peak Design and love them both...but...the nice thing about the Peak Design is that it uses an arca-swiss plate and I can attach it right to the tripod...with the cotton carrier you have to take the attachment plate off the bottom of the camera body to put it on a tripod...also with Peak Design everything is interchangeable and I can go from a backpack mount to a sling strap without changing anything...
I love mine. Would not trade it. In fact I added a 3 hook. I do carry 3 bodies at a time when shooting drag racing.
I just got the belt version last night. Feel super in my in-home test. Looking forward to seeing how it performs in the field but thinking it should be really good. Way better than a heavy camera bouncing on chest.
Only problem is that it eliminates easy use of my tripod mount. I'm wondering if I can get a little bar that would allow me to attach both to the bottom of the camera. Anyone tried this or have other ideas?

Does anyone here have one of these and specifically any smaller framed women? I am going to try it out and was just wondering how you liked it. I'm sure it will take some getting used to, but should come in handy for hiking and sightseeing.
I use my Cotton Carrier for my D800. Most of the time I have my 24-70mm f2.8 VR lens on the camera and sometimes an SB-700 flash on the camera. That combination weights almost seven pounds. I have worn it for up to 14-hours at a time when I was touring in Spain.
I have neck and back issues and the Cotton Carrier really helps because I can't suspend the camera around my neck because of old neck injuries. The Cotton takes most of the strain off my neck, but shifts the load to my chest moving my center of gravity forward putting some strain on my back. Since my doctor prescribed a back brace, I no longer feel any strain.
I think that Cotton could improve their design by making it long enough so that it works like a backpacker's backpack where a waist belt transfers the majority of the weight to your hips rather than your shoulders.
That being said, my guess is that you will not be carrying anywhere near the weight that I do, so you should not be overly concerned. The Cotton Carrier is a well made product and it securely holds your camera. In addition to locking the camera to the carrier, a safety strap prevents a dropped camera from reaching the ground and it prevents grab and run theft of your camera.
CottonCarrier offers one. I use it all the time. I’m on my way out to use it, now. It will fit Arca Swiss heads, directly, but you can add any other mount to it.

I was wondering about the flash, as I use fill alot. I have a 70D and 580exll and sometimes have a 70 to 300 lens. It gets to weighing quite alot after all day. I have a beamer cover, I wonder about clipping that to one of the rings near the chest? It may be a trial and hopefully NOT error thing.

I will have to check that out, as I do use my tripod alot too.

The rings you are talking about are for the camera safety straps. Instead, do what I do. I have a collection of Adorama Slinger soft lens cases in all three sizes. They attach to your belt or, as I prefer, the belt strap on my Cotton Carrier. My SB-700 goes in the medium size Slinger when it is not on the Camera and the other one holds an additional lens. When I use the Nikon 24-70mm f2.8, I use the case that came with the lens instead of a Slinger. The advantage of this is that the weight is on your sides instead of your front.

Thanks! I will look into that. Sounds like a good idea.

Solution: Attach a small clamp to the attachment. Attach clamp to your camera plate.
Release clamp and put camera on the tripod. Try to get a clamp with a place to attach the tether if you are going to use it.
I have and use the Cotton everyday. It's great, especially for long lenses.
I have one of these brackets, never use it, I'm just a tripod user. I should sell it.

I used this solution as well, using the RRS clamp pictured. Works like a charm. (Little hint if you go this route. A small drop of blue LocTite helps the lug stay tightly fastened to the back of the clamp.)

Thanks for the tip! Is the blue the one that is removable?
