The patience you have to do the fine fur detail is amazing, Vicki! These are all gorgeous.
Are you saving as sRGB color space for posting as jpg's? I was thinking Elements does that automatically but maybe not. And perhaps it's something to do with the Mac.
Next time you have a moment, when you flatten your psd, instead of doing "save as jpg," try the "save for web" function (there are a few clicks within it that require choices, as I recall), then re-save as jpg and post both for comparison. We shouldn't be seeing such a noticeable difference in color and brightness between the thumbnails and downloads. sRGB is what should be used for online posting.
All the best. Love sharing your journey!!
I love all of your shots with minor exception to the second one. The background color is too close to the color of the dog in my opinion. Beautiful work.

Very, very nice. My favorite is #1. It's subjective but I think a background color that contrasts more with the hummingbird color might, and I emphasize might, be better. OTOH, I like the color on #3 although it also doesn't contrast a lot.
What breed is the black dog - he or she resembles my Spanador. I noticed your location, earthquake country. In 1989 I was living less than 10 miles from the epicenter of the Big One and that's something I will never, never forget! I hope you never have to experience that!

I spent several hours today experimenting some more. This time I followed some tips from Linda that helped....a lot! In many ways it was easier to isolate an image on a new background than using the selection tools first before adding the background. I feel like I have options for achieving similar goals. See what you think. The hummingbird looked fine on its original dark background, but I thought I'd try putting it on a new one. It was one of my earlier attempts, and I didn't clean up the edges as well as I might - part of the learning experience I guess.

Beautiful shots Vicki! It's good to have an extra
Helpful helper like linda!
Viky those are very nice images. Everything new requires a learning curve so you are doing fine.
The hummingbird is a very good shot although I find the contrast low to my taste. I did a curve adjustment to the image and now it looks better to my eyes.

You have done a great job Vicki...
Linda's approach was so easy once I understood how it works. It's another tool to add to my collection and another step toward becoming braver at trying new things.
Thanks Val.
