Thank you James. Your photography is wonderful. Almost (not too close yet) a shut in at age 75 I don't get around much anymore. The Indian River near where I live has a campground where you can park and watch the lift offs of our newest space program. I rarely get around to see them taking off. One of my neighbors told me they were able to see the latest from their back yard. We are that close. I didn't go outside to watch it because the local news stations all broadcast the launches as they occur and like watching fireworks, we get a better view on the TV than finding a spot on the ground. My significant other has COPD so we have to be careful and not park where the fireworks enthusiasts park. The smoke even bothers me somewhat. Having lived in 8 US states, I really enjoy seeing this great land of ours and have a rather large collection of pictures but nothing beats the real thing. Thanks for your contributions. I have spent some time in Tennessee, mostly around Knoxville and points east. I have been all over this land of ours but have missed more than I have captured. Good luck and good shooting in the future. Regards................
Thank you James. Your photography is wonderful. Al... (show quote)

I have a great respect and love for older folks. Being a member of our local church that supports seniors, I see lots of elderly folks who are struggling during their later years. I recently was the official photographer for the church and our mission was to go the all the shut-ins, folks in nursing homes and those sick in hospitals so I could take their portraits. It was a heart wrenching job. I hate seeing people struggling, but there's not much one can do to help healthwise. I tip my hat to you sir for doing your best at your age and taking care of your wife. You should be proud, I know I was touched by your story and enjoyed your tale of space launches. I have been to your part of Florida a few times. I love it there. My wife and I drove down in July 2011 to watch the last Space Shuttle launch. We took along her 83 year old father. He was in a wheelchair unable to walk. But that didn't stop us from taking him along. Somehow we managed and he got to see his one and only launch from Kennedy Space Center. I'll never forget that trip. I'm so glad you got to see some of the U.S. We have such a beautiful country. I don't get to travel as much as I want because of pesky arthritis. My wife usually does the driving and I do the photography. We make a great team. Take care of yourself now...and post some photos sometime. We'd all love to see them. Thanks again for your nice comment and story.

Yes, I've photographed that one too. I need to go back and re-shoot it now that I have a better camera. And there's one also in Cookeville TN that I'll like to re-shoot. Thanks for reminding me.

Have you heard of the mountain goat? It is the line that ran from Cowan up the mountain to Monteagle.

No I haven't. That would be quite a climb up to Monteagle. There are several small railroads that no longer exist all over the place. I recently photographed a lone depot out near Fly Tennessee. It's right next to the highway which was the original train track bed.

It's probably owned by the city of Lynnville or maybe the county is my best guess. The engine may look pristine, but that's because it has a good fresh coat of black paint. Up close, there are areas where rust has ate through some of the metal. There are some missing parts and a few hand made parts that are not original to the engine but added for looks. But she sure is perty to look at. Thanks for commenting and stopping by.

Probably deeded to the city along with the spur.

I had the pleasure of photographing the Texas when it was stripped in Spencer, NC. And made sure to get there to see it ready to go back to Atlanta. It was painted in its 1893 livery. It was great. A lot of videos on You Tube. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CGCoR4ldDM8

Yea, it's going to be revealed sometime later this year in Atlanta in it's permanent new home. I hope to get down there to photograph it someday. I did get to shoot The Texas's nemesis The General in Kennesaw Georgia last September. It has also be restored to like new.

Beautiful pictures, I love trains. I grew up on a farm with train tracks 5 miles away and everytime a train went back it sounded like it was in our backyard. So at night, I would listen to the Whippoorwills and the train whistle.
