Hi Mike! I cannot help directly regarding Tamron vs Sigma on this particular lens, but can say I have the Canon 10-18 lens made for the Canon crop models and it is a very sharp lens, especially from approx 12mm through 18mm. I have never owned a Sigma lens but do have a couple of Tamrons which are quite good in my opinion.

Before I give up on this thread, I will ask the OP again.

What camera body?

OOOOKKKK. Not exactly answering the question but good to know.

What do you expect when the OP is stingy with details?

My 2+ cents worth: Go with the Sigma Art lens. Tamron does not have anything close to this sharpness. I have a Sigma 50mm Art lens that is one of the sharpest lenses I have ever seen. Sigma is renowned for their Art series of lenses.

I have the canon 10-18mm lens and it's a fantastic lens for the money. As far as the others I can't say, but my advice would be to rent the lenses and do your own comparison as to what works best for your needs.

As someone else already asked, where are you shooting from? Stage or audience? I shoot from the audience in amateur productions using the Sigma 70-200 f/2.8 and get excellent results from 20' or more from the actor or dancer I want. I typically want a single person, not the whole stage. Without knowing more about what you want to do, all these responses will help rather little.

I recently purchased the Sigma 10-20 f3.5 and am generally happy with it. It does produce chromatic fringing, as all these types will, but Lightroom has the lens profile in the develop module that corrects well for that and distortion. I bought the Sigma over the Tamron for the fixed aperature and Adorama had a bundle package at a great price.

From Canon owners of crop sensor cameras. I've heard nothing but praise for Canon's 10-18mm wide angle lens on this forum. And the price is quite affordable.

Fixed aperture? What is that or do you mean the maximum aperture? Cheaper zooms do not have the same maximum aperture for all focal lengths while the better lenses do. Is that what you mean? In any event, I would prefer at least f/2.8 for low lighting. f/3.5 is marginal at best in my experience.

I am using the Canon 10-18 on my 70D, but you did not say if you were FF or APS-C

OK. The OP does not want us to know what he is trying to do or what his equipment is. I am out of here.

I recently purchased the 10-20mm Sigma over the older (B001) 10-24mm Tamron. The decision was based on the fixed maximum aperture of f3.5 and the current price. The newer Tamron is incompatible with my D90's. If was compatible that most likely would have been my choice since I have had very good results using Tamron lenses.
I'm very happy with the construction, operatio & results I've gotten with the Sigma so far.

Neither. Tokina 11-16 or 11-20 in the range you mention.

Agree! I own the Tokina 11-16, tack sharp, very good build, and fast with f/2.8 available throughout the range
