We soon won't have to worry about respect in the military, as we won't have much of a military period!

Flaws in the eyes of military-ha. The one thing that definitely is not a flaw is asking questions (four years in USAF before anyone asks). The government and the military should get a bunch of questions but more importantly there should be a bunch of answers. Can't have answers without questions, you know. One good answer I would like is about the likely question new recruits ask is," why is this crap so important?" A question that really needs an answer from military and especially government.

When a person is no longer a recruit, that person should have a better idea of when questions are appropriate.

It is really sad. The people running this country are trying to turn our youth into neuter-gender wimps. The worst thing that ever happened to this country was Carter's abolishing the Draft. The military rectified what some parents screwed up back in those days. Parents, for the most part, used to back up the teachers so there was no playing one against the other like there is today. And the government says that you can't discipline your children by giving them a whack when they need it so the kids aren't afraid of anything or anybody. The shrinks decided that their little psyches would get warped if a spanking was administered. Well, how did that theory turn out?

I don't believe that this a political issue and certainly I don't want to make it one, particularly in the Chit-Chat section.

That is a long winded reply to a problem that shouldn't exist! All the Army needs to do is hire a few USMC drill sergeants! I still remember standing on the yellow foot prints after they had us file off the buses!

How can the military not be a political issue?

Oh yes - we see it on this blog often - some members are very quick to turn nasty or to make snide comments to a newbie who has asked a newbie question.

Fortunately the good and helpful folks in this blog far outnumber the nasty.

IN STEP, hell they weren't even in the same uniform basic discipline starting with everyone in the same uniform and the same hair cut.

Good article, but not fundamental enough. Start by getting politics OUT of education. 2. Get MONEY out of education. In fact the pursuit of profit over everything could something to think hard on in quite a number of issues, don't you think.

The article, which is from a military publication, expressed specifics regarding discipline and was not meant to be an all encompassing summation or diatribe regarding education, marching or politics, lol! My intent was to point out that this trend began many years ago and the military is finally recognizing and addressing it.

When did we start labeling others because they don't agree with what we say or believe? How has it become the norm to destroy someone's character because of their beliefs? All ideas and beliefs are what make this world great.

Would you care to be more specific and direct your post or are you just making a general statement?

Why do you think the Heritage Foundation is a Military publication?

I'm referencing the link posted in the beginning of this thread. Your first post referenced it and not a link somebody else added that has essentially nothing to do with the lack of respect being discussed.

My bad for not being clear.
