I wonder what is going on with Nikon. It took me 2 months to get a battery grip for my new D810.
B&H usually has them in stock, I believe Adorama also. That grip is an easy item to get most of the time.
I know the feeling, tip. I ordered an ES-2 from Adorama in early October. Nikon pulled their release until "whenever" and I am still waiting. Adorama sends me an apologetic e-mail just about every 3 weeks but I know it isn't their fault.
It was part of the promotional with the camera purchase back in December. UPS tracking says it should be delivered today.
Try Portland Pro Photo supply!
I have been on backorder at B&H for about five weeks for the battery grip.
Many of the cameras and related products sold by Amazon are really through Amazon Market Place which means you are buying indirectly from another vendor which has an arrangement with Amazon. This means that time to delivery becomes much less predictable. If an item is back ordered you are completely in the dark about when you will get it. Also when you check out at Amazon you have options on shipping and different costs.

I can't tell you about the lag time for Amazon. I can tell you I ordered a D850 from B&H 1/4/18 and got it 2/2.
I ordered mine from B&H on 1/9 and just found out that it will be here tomorrow, so about 5 weeks from them.
Bob, did you put an order in, or just a request to be informed when it is in stock. B&H is filling orders in the order that they were placed. Since there is a significant number of these, it may be awhile before they have stock on the shelves. Everyone that I know had an order with B&H placed in November got their cameras already.
I think that one of the reasons for the backlog for getting the new D850 is that Nikon has shelves of D5 and D850 bodies sitting at the Olympics to be able to serve all the professional photographers at the Games (so if any pro has a breakdown, they can get a working camera right away). The same is true for Canon. The article published at DPReview didn't have numbers, but there were photos of lots of brand new bodies sitting on shelves.
Amazon is saying that D850's are expected to ship March 13.
