This male Red Grouse (Lagopus lagopus) landed close to me yesterday and didn't seem to realise I was there for a minute or two. These birds are bred on large areas of heather covered moorland for game shooting. Given that when someone points something at them they are normally about to be blasted with birdshot it appeared remarkably unconcerned when I raised the camera to my eye. The males have these strikingly prominent eyebrow wattles.

So this is what aristocrats have been shooting for these many years and what a good whiskey was named for? Well done

Hello JRD3

Yes, this is the one. It's a huge business across the UK. In fairness it supports a lot of jobs. However I prefer to shoot with a DSLR rather than a shotgun! Thank you very much for looking and for commenting, much appreciated. Glad you enjoyed it.

This is the first shot of a grouse I have seen, and a nice one it is!!! I too would rather see them shot with a camera than a gun.
